Well, I don’t even go to a dealer until I have a price in writing that I think is reasonable. That’s my game. I don’t negotiate in a dealer. Those days are long gone for me.

i do the same. i give them the middle finger if they refuse to communicate with me over text or email.

as for the other guy, his chances of "bluffing" for a specific vehicle he wanted will not work out in his favor in all honesty.
the dealership knows an individual wouldn't go out of there way to for an allocation request just to walk away when the vehicle arrives..

I’m always a Toyota fan, even though I have fair share of bad dealer experience, ford experience even worse throughout, service, vehicle markup n quality and so on, I trust Toyota to come through with quality and such at this price point, and you are right,it’s a lot!
I just don’t have the energy to like 20yrs ago lol at this price and loaded with all high end aftermarket quality parts the put into the TH and with warranty to boot, and I got some discount even though not that much.
I had M cars, GTR, GT3, other performance cars way more power and faster than ranger or TH, but thats not what I buy the TH for. power and 0-60 is not everything, my 6sp 1M is slower than GTR but sooo much fun to drive.

I’ve heard it said that it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

i’ve had a BMW 335i convertible and an 6mt Mazda Miata (ND4). Outside of the freeway straightaways, the Miata is a lot more fun at half the price.

Miata is more fun than most cars on the road funny you mentioned Mazda, had a 07 speed3, lots of fun with that with stage 2 tune but too much torque steer for front wheel drive

yeah, I love that the Miata is RWD. And that the soft top is fully manual. I was getting nervous about that Rube Goldberg BMW retractable hard top as the car aged. I was also impressed Mazda ended up offering a CarPlay upgrade kit for my 2016. I added a wireless CP adapter and it’s been nice. Definitely something I’m looking forward to when I move from my ‘17 Taco to a new one.

Speaking of which, test drove a 2025 Taco today and saw a new level of craptastic dealer add ons:

    DEALER ADDED OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT/PRODUCT
    • APPEARANCE PROTECTION-3YR $749.00
    • DENT PROTECTION-3YR $749.00
    • WINDOW TINT & SCREEN PROTECTOR $599.00
    • RAIN PACKAGE $999.00
    • BLACKOUT PACKAGE $899.00
    • BLACK EXHAUST TIP $299.00
    • TONNEAU COVER $1,999.00
Not sure what half of them are, and the tonneau is just the OEM trifold that’s $1200 MSRP and available for $1062

    Simply ridiculous.

These were all dealer add ons, on a separate supplemental window sticker. Not on the main one with the nearly $3200 of SETD crap.

yeah, though I accomplished my goal of seeing what sort of shenanigans that particular dealer plays, as well as getting a good test drive of the EV model with multiple stops and some slight elevation changes. Definitely an upgrade from my 2017 3rd gen.

I am also in GA. Might I recommend you look at dealers in TN. They are discounting on the dealer websites without even hassling. And they are not under SET’s rule. I will never buy from all the states under SET. The deals really suck and the distributor add ons are ridiculous.

Yep, thanks, already looking in TN to get out of SETD. I also pinged Jim Rouleau per recommendation here.

Rght now I’m deciding what I want. Yesterday I got the repair estimate for my rear-ended 2017 and (at the moment) it looks like it’ll be repaired not totaled. I figure I’ll still replace it, 8.5 years with the 3rd gen transmission is enough. Especially after driving the hybrid 4th gen. So (hopefully) that gives me the luxury of time to find the right build at the right price.

I was in a similar spot in 2016 and was able to get a local dealer to “order” exactly the conf I wanted without any of the extra SETD crap, and at a good price. Dunno if that will still be possible. We’ll see.

Rain package, lol. It's probably Rain-X on the windshield. :rain:

As far as tint goes, check all windows for tint. In AZ dealers will only tint the front two windows to match the back and then charge $700.

lol on the rain package. I should’ve asked what that was, maybe three free car washes in the dealers scratch factory? :D

This was just the overpriced front window match setup which some GA dealers do. To their credit most GA dealers don’t (in my experience).

when they do that, give your asking price and say those things you dont want, and not necessary, walk away, let them think about your offer, your offer should be price below those add ons and then some, they will sell, they doing that knowing they can discount few thousands off so it seems they giving you huge discount, but those markups are to negate the discount.
