The wife and I actually look forward to power outages. Sort of puts in a reset. Seems like the power fails 3 or four times every winter, and 1 or two times in summer storms.
Even today, with strong rain and T-storms forecast, we set out water bottles. (We miss the water pump most of all when the electricity fails. Of course, when the outage goes on for days and days, things get less romantic.
I can have the little 4500 watt generator feeding the house in less than 15 minutes. That gets run to keep the water flowing .....

I did the manual power backup thing for years. As we aged, it became more of a PIA. Especially in the middle of the night, or while I was at work an hour away. I actually still have the old generator. I've considered selling it or giving it to the right person.

    Good morning porch people.
Yesterday I finally got the last of the branches cut off the birch tree in the front yard. All that's left is the butt logs now and that's much easier work. And fun because I can get the big saws out. I cut all the branches off with an ego electric pole pruner, it worked excellent!
What I started with. Pretty big birch for our area. But it's been dying off so it was time to go.

The last 2 branches where the trickiest, pulled em over with ropes.

I got a few hours every weekend if it wasn't raining. Been working on this since the beginning of april. Which is fine, I work a little slower than I used to at almost 65.

Worked on the house water system most of the day yesterday. Got it back to working properly. PIA, but we need it to function flawless. I wouldn't make much of a plumber... do NOT like it. We're both happy campers, now.

New personal record today since my knee surgery in December of 2022 when the doctors removed my right medial meniscus and performed microfracture surgery on the top of the tibia to create "fake cartilage"; 91 consecutive days of 10,000 steps or more (some days 10,001, a few days up over 20,000). Before my knee surgery ten-thousand steps was a piece of cake; yeah, not so much any more.

Hello gang, very cloudy and cool (mid-50s) today... maybe more rain this afternoon. However, after tomorrow, things change. We have a prediction of 88° for Saturday (hooray)!

87 today and climbing into the mid 90’s by the weekend here in the northern Sacramento valley. Windy with gusts to 40 mph. The warmth and wind is drying out my veggie garden. Had to irrigate twice today but fortunately with the drip system I just push a button or program the system for twice a day.
Going to spend the afternoon getting my fishing gear together. I haven’t been fishing yet this year and that’s way too long. Thinking of going up to a little mountain lake in the Stanislaus national forest. It’s a small mountain lake, decent trout fishing and during week days generally no one else there. I think my wife is anxious to get me the hell out of the house. Damn I love retirement.
