TRD off Road shock upgrade or no?

I have the TRD off Road with 18 in wheels. 265/70/18 stock from factory. I don't know if there is a lift kit or not? I honestly feel it is high enough and I don't do serious off rd. Is it necessary to upgrade any suspension components? Bilstein shocks?

 

do you not like the ride quality ?

 

Would recommend just driving it. Deal with any potential upgrades when you wear out the OE bits.

 

This. Also if you add bigger tires the truck feels higher and lifted.

 

It feels fine to me. I just read about all these suspension upgrades that talk about improving ride quality.

I have had my 2024 TRD Hybrid for six weeks. It came off the lot with Bilstein shocks. The ride is pretty nice going over some rough streets with road damage. If it isn't broke, I am not gonna fix it. LoL. When I hit some off road traveling, I will see how it goes, but I am sure these shocks are going to work out.

They are good shocks. I have installed a few sets on Toyota's and the customers loved them. That doesn't mean you will like them, but I think they will be good unless the shocks prove me wrong.

 

Same setup as both of you, and felt the suspension was 90% there but needed a little something.

Decided to put the AllDogs springs up front to preserve the ride and remove all but about .5" of the rake. This will create a slightly taller and more level appearance - just about perfect for me.

The rest of my setup (TRD front skidplate, Canadian OEM mudflaps, and ARB rear recovery points) will be all I need for the amount of time I spend on trails. I'm not interested in rock crawling.

Make sure to adjust your tire pressure to 30-35 psi. Most dealers set their tire pressure to the maximum at 50 psi and when new owners drive off the lot they are worried about how harsh the ride is.

 

I’ll be the pain in the neck - I put 33s on mine, no lift no change of shocks, and I bottom out frequently. I also have the add front bumper, warn evo 10 winch, and a 20 inch s8 from Baja Designs and my front sags pretty bad.

if you’re not doing all that, I bet it would ride pretty well on just 285/70/17s

 

This is obvious but… If you’re adding all that weight then you need to change your suspension set up along with it.

 

The TDR OR already comes with Bilsteins. They're upgraded over the ones on the 3rd Gen - which were a little puny. The 4th Gen's Bilsteins are 46mm - on par with 5100s.

They'd be the shocks I'd put on a 4G that didn't come with them, and a main reason I picked the OR.

Bottom line: You already have the good suspension.

 

Mine had 50 psi in them when I drove it off the lot. They are at 37 now just to see how they feel. Probably dial them back to the spec of 32.

Why do they set them at 50? Is this so they don't have to check them as much on the lot?

 

That is my thought. I actually think it is either done at factory or at the port. Dealers are too lazy to inflate every single car and truck that arrive at their lots.
