    Thanks.
For something so simple, no end grain showing, it was pretty hard to get it to look good. Lots of accurate miter cuts.

Tricky work, that. So much "length" on each side that shows errors. Funny how the human eye cannot measure millimeters an edge is off but it can definitely see that *something* is off-of-square.

I would probably need to have a real table saw in my work area to get those right.

Not to mention that the grain matches all the way around. Too many people miss that cool detail.
    Well done!

A few winters ago, I got stir-krazy and reverted to a earlier life hobby. Pulled the plans off the web. They were in Itialian.
Ordered some 1/16" Mahogany aircraft vernier and built this model.

Anyone ever compared Gilboys Hard Wax oil with Walrus Oil Furniture Butter?

I have used both. My impressions are subjective and short term application. Both used on cherry sanded to 400-600 grit, stained with Minwax Special Walnut.

I like both! Gilboys should be easier to apply in a cold shop and soaks in a bit quicker. Walrus Oil is more viscous and needs stirring even while applying. The "butter" seems to sink to the bottom.

Both were brushed then wet microfiber soak rubbed in. Then hand rubbed deeply until some heat generated. Then buffed with clean soft microfiber.

Walrus oil seems to polymerize a bit harder and the Gilboys goes deeper with less coating on the surface. No idea on water resistance, etc

That model did not take long enuf..so.
I recreated this model hovercraft from the one I had in 1975.
Originally, it was a kit from Venture Aero Marine out of Akron, Ohio. They have long since moved or went out of business. This one is from memory.
They had 2 kits for a .10cc R/C engine and one for a .60cc size. However, their main business was full size hovercrafts that took V.W. engines or, if ya wanted a hot machine, a Rotek engine. They also contracted for a Flordia Everglades Tour company and that unit could hold a dozen people.
This one, I drew up in my old CAD system and retrofitted it for an elwctric set up. It does not run as long as the gas, but it's way less messy.

Buy tools as you need them for projects, don't just buy them because you think your going to need them. Sometimes the wood can cost more than the tools. Lol.

What one is inspired to make here is real, not just a little bling on the truck. I learn much from these obsessive-compulsive geniuses. o_O:anonymous:

I must confess.. it can be difficult for me to sit still...no wait...that's not right. It can be difficult for me to be doing nothing, when there is something to do. I can sit still in the woods, waiting on a particular critter to show up. But it's really rough being cooped up in the winter.
I'm really not a "wood" worker per si. Metal, wood, or plastic, whatever the project calls for. A set of plans or a sketch is about all that's needed and not always that.
Do not take this as a sermon or any kind of preaching. I believe we were made in the image of God. Therefore, we were made by a Creator. Ingrained within each of us is the desire to create, or make things. We find ourselves in a more balanced or harmonous frame of mind when we "make" something or express our creativeness. Tinkering with a vehicle satifies that "maker" gene too.
As a kid, 10 or so, I loved the wind up stick and tissue planes. And they flew like rocks. But I still loved to build them over the winter, mostly. Then scratch building, (no formal plans) really let the juices flow. Much more rewarding.
And 3D printing was 100X of that.
But that's a story for another time.

What I'm trying to say, is, letting the "maker" juices flow, will make you a happier soul.
Start small. Start simple. Wood, metal, stone, leather...whatever.
Sometimes it takes a few attempts down different roads before ya find what fits you.
    And most importantly...
    Care not what others think.

I have never used Gilboys, but have used Furniture Butter many times. It is super simple to apply. I just mix it and wipe it on with a clean cloth. After applying to the entire project, I go back with a clean cloth and dry/ buff. I don’t typically use it on anything that may get wet often.

    Which did you prefer?

Furniture Butter mainly because it seems to have a better finished coat. Gilboys is more of a natural light finish, maybe for indoor live edge shelving for example

I will add these products, while quite expensive sure are better than the choices 20-30 years ago.
