Been away for a few days so missed all this...nothing to say except... Dude....

I'd like to tell Mrs. SpruceMica about the polenta...but then I'll have to try and make it.

When I worked offshore and we would do easy and quick, we had a similar recipe…
Large can of pie filling of choice.
Box of cake mix of choice.
    Stick of butter.
Pour filling in casserole dish, pour cake mix over, cut stick of butter into slices and place over cake mix, covering top (spaced). Bake… you’ll know when it’s done as it will have developed a browned crust. Enjoy!

Yes we do that pretty often as well, Big fan of apple pie and yellow cake... It's a bit more of a crumble than this but a win every time for sure

Thanks for the combo recommendation. I'm wanting to do something like that at camp.

Marry Me chicken will be served over some garlic lemon pearled couscous.
Cooked this while sipping on some Buffalo Trace whiskey and listening to Sade’s greatest Hits.

Yup, that’s one of the ones that comes up. So easy a caveman….

I should expressly say… we don’t make the cake mix… simply pour it right out the package. I realized it was open for interpretation, so I wanted to make clear. I’m sure you could make the mix too… but we never did. The moisture from the filling was enough to give it that crumble/cobler/buckle appeal…

We call it a dump cake when I make it for our camping. I usually add 7up/Sprite to it for more moisture. Comes out really well.

I’m a pepper jack fan. My only must haves are onions and a good rye bread.

It ended up being caramelized sweet vidalia onion and sautéed mushrooms on toasted wheat bread with fontina & havarti cheese. Side of onion rings and tater tots
    Sorry no pics.
