I've got to get a handle on this.

 

I’m thrown by the fact that one has three straps and the other just one.

 

Hahahahaha! Keep them on edge!

 

The pick head is on top of the flat head, meaning there's a gap. There's actually two wooded blocks behind that one (one on each end) and required extra securing. The U Bolt in the middle is holding both of them. No need for an extra U bolt on the flat head on the lower end.

 

It makes a very nice display, unadorned & workmanlike yet a powerful thought provoking statement making one ponder the stories behind the equipment.

All "souvenirs" from a past life.

 

I've actually gone back to look at it several times, it is captivating somehow.

 

The axes obviously are from my old FD, the pine boards were burnt using a propane weed burner. Hung in the back garage wall using a French Cleat made from 3/4 inch plywood.

 

Looks good, I agree they shouldn't be "restored", but I would add some linseed oil to the handles and some oil to the axe heads to keep the rust from getting worse.
