I'm between OMEs and RXTs. It'll probably come down to whichever is better priced, honestly...

Partsengines has free shipping on the OME, if I find a similar deal on the RXTs who knows.

3" lift. $10K in TRD options. Richie's semi-hidden bumper, and soon his Elka suspension
I'm running All-Pro that I got from Tony. I love them! Ride great with my Elkas.

Looking for some input/education on rear bumpers. I'm trying to solve 2 issues: being able to mount a gas can on the bumper, and stop my trailer hitch
    from dragging on every.single.rock.

    Requirements:
    * Canadian source (Canadian manufactured would be even better)
    * Dual swing out
    * retain use of trailer hitch
-> this is where I am not clear; if I go with a high-clearance bumper, then I assume that it move the hitch up? Does this mean that I could still use it for a bike rack, but no longer for towing?
-> If you install a high clearance rear bumper, I assume that the spare (in standard location) becomes the next victim when going off a ledge? If you move the spare to the bumper, what is going
to hit next? The frame? Right now the stock hitch 'protects' most of the underside, I'm worried that if I move that up via a high clearance bumper something else is going to break/hit?

Any input/experience from someone with an aftermarket rear bumper is much appreciated.
FYI. I *am* going through the 'rear bumper' thread on here as part of my research :)
I also know that I could go with a lift to minimise the ass-dragging, but that opens up a whole 'nother can of worms, and I'm not sure I'm ready for that (yet):anonymous:

You can still use the hitch for towing, it just isn't legally rated to do so. Other than that, it's still a 2" receiver that will allow you to do what any 2" receiver will do. The leaf hanger will be the lowest point and you will hit them occasionally. They can be bent. If you drag the rear, it'll be the bumper that hits.

If you can weld, coastal offroad will be your best bet

+1 coastal offroad. Minimal welding experience required to build them. Kinda expensive for some laser cut steel.

Ive built 4 hardest part is getting a paint job that will last more then 1 Ontario winter. what ended up working best so far is POR15 over the raw steel, then bed liner over that.

I would not recommend towing anything heavy with the hitch on the bumper. Its not well supported, also no place for the trailer chains. Bike racks will be fine.

I would not trust AI but there could be some legal grey area here is your towing with a non "Classed" or rated hitch. Without digging into the actual regulations mto websites guides just say something to the effect of "towing with a hitch that's strong enough". what constitutes "strong enough" if the MTO officer is not a mechanical engineer versed in SAE test programs, my though would be the hitch class stamping. might be worth contacting MTO to see what their interpretation of a non Classed fabricated hitch may be.
