I am rebuilding my entire AC system in my 2008 Tacoma 4.0 V6 as I bought it without one. Both high and low pressure lines, condenser, and compressor are all being replaced. I need to know how much PAG oil to add to a completely dry system before installing everything as I am anxious about how it will go. If anyone can give me any information, it would really help a lot. Thanks!

    5.1oz

Do note that most new compressors come with oil, some have a tag stating how much but others you have to pour it out and measure it.

What about the evaporator and expansion valve? Are you replacing those? If not I'd at least pull the expansion valve screen out and check it for debris.

So I've done some research. This is a completely dry system that I will be fixing up. I know I'll need to add 20fl oz of Refrigerant. Some sources say add 5fl oz of PAG oil. Some like you say add 5.61fl oz. Where can I find the most reliable source? I seen on once source the PAG oil capacity is different in some years. Just want to be sure I am doing this right.

Mitchell shows 5oz for 05-08 and 5.6 oz for 09-15 but honestly half an ounce one way or the other isn't gona harm anything.

Toyota doesn't give a spec for total capacity other than stating that the OEM replacement compressor comes with 5.1 oz of oil + 0.51 oz which I'm thinking should say +/- 0.51 oz. By their recommendations of measuring the oil in the old compressor, deducting that amount from the oil in the new compressor (5.1oz), then removing that amount from the new compressor suggests to me that the 5.1oz +/- 0.51oz is the total oil capacity.

In any case refrigerant oil isn't an exact science, as long as you aren't way over (decreases cooling efficiency) or way under (may shorten compressor life) on oil your fine.

Just went through this when replacing my AC compressor pump and was told by the AC shop that pumped out all the old freon and PAG oil to add 1 ounce of PAG46 oil on top of the recommended 5 ounce compressor amount for every unit you replace in the AC system. For a 2007 Toyota Tacoma, the A/C system typically uses approximately 8 ounces of PAG oil, specifically PAG 46. Found this video very helpful and make sure you replace the refrigerant filter housed up in the front firewall passenger side. Hope it helps
