you are so ignorant. wind energy? do you know how big a wind farm has to be to generate enough energy to power a city? do you have any idea how many trees and plants have to be cleared to do that? in addition, wind energy only works, WHEN ITS WINDY!!! Coastal cities have that option, but at the expense of ruining their landscape. very few places in the US are suitable for wind farms. I work at a wind turbine plant, and we sell almost exclusively oversea's, not for political or tax reasons, but because our country is so huge, and only certain areas are suitable. i'm all for green energy, but only the stuff that works. wind has its place, but wont be replacing coal or nuclear anytime soon. so feel good driving your coal powered electric car. now if you got a hyrdogen powered, car (only if you live in cali of course) then i'd say you're onto something.

btw, your argument about dogs in korea doesn't even make sense. you're trying to use unappealing cultural differences validate your point. thats not spouting facts. thats using emotion to make a point, a very poor point at that.

petting a dog and eating a pig makes you a hypocrite, and buying beef is equal to dog fighting??? Jesus. Normally when i'm trying to lay out a concise argument, i avoid being crass. but in this case, all i can say is you are a straight up fucking retard.

and stop posting videos like they are scientific fact. thats like trying to prove George Bush is great by telling someone to watch fox news. anyone can find a video to back up whatever argument they are trying to make. stop acting like you're a fucking scientist because you can search youtube. you've turned almost teh entire forum against you (including me, who originally gave your posts some thought) with you your holier than thou attitude and your anti corporate ramblings. Let me just end this post by saying, why dont you just go fuck off somehwere, and take your bullshit sprout burgers with you

ugh. as a straight man, who loves bacon, i can say that is disgusting. like, really really gross

he started off ok. but then he got nasty

I enjoy eating meat, but that video is pretty fucked up! I do spend the extra $1 and buy free range eggs so they can spread their wings (farm to fridge video reference), does that make me a good person?? I hope so. My mum doesn't eat beef, chicken, pig, sheep only fish and animal products. I can kind of see that logic looking at it from an animal cruelty perspective. But your video had to ruin that too. At least let me have cheese! or eggs. The cows on our farm growing up and the slaughterhouse was a very different picture to what your farm fridge video showed. The video paints a very broad stroke over how you should view ANY animal product.

The simple fact of the matter is their are just TOO many god damn humans on this planet demanding meat at the lowest possible price. Something in the system has to give, and unfortunately it gives rise to bad factory farming practices. Shitty I know. How the hell is a mcdonalds mcvalue double cheeseburger $1.39 or Dairy QUeen burger 99c. Crazy. I would pay extra for my meat if I knew it was a free range cow in a paddock that got a bullet between the eyes. Too bad it doesn't work that way.

Buying a Hybrid car is completely unsustainable and is not as environmentally friendly as one may think. The batteries used in those cars come from exotic minerals which we have a very finite supply of. And they come from very politically unstable places. I see natural gas as a much cleaner and practical alternative to hybrid (coal powered electricity). We have 100s of years of natural gas reserves left. Especially with shale gas, hz drilling, and new fracture technologies opening up new tight reservoirs.

I enjoyed reading this thread - both sides. Thanks. Sorry, I miss the humour in ppl just posting pictures of meat, and vocalizing how much meat they eat and will eat. Good for you. Very easy safe stance to take which doesn't require any thought and contributes bugger all to the discussion.

Thanks for making me feel guilty about eating my chicken egg salad sandwhich for lunch fuckers :p

Yeah, that shit is unacceptable! You can't tell me with our advances that we can't slaughter our food more humanely.

Unfortunately, this will only get worse as the human population continues to explode.

 While this video may not be an accurate representation of the meat industry as a whole, these videos, books, documentaries, and organizations exist because it DOES happen. It is a fact.

Doctors rape patients, bankers steal money, and cooks/waiters spit in food....That doesn't mean that everyone in those professions is evil or that it is wide spread. Trying to make the argument that eating meat is bad because this happens EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME!!!! by posting the worst cases is NOT fact or honest at all.

Yes, it does happen. Check out the work of Temple Grandin. She has brought the industry a long way. She showed the slaughterhouses that there is a fast, efficient, and humane way to run the business of food.

I guess you missed my previous statement: "this video may not be an accurate representation of the meat industry as a whole"

I'll assume this wasn't directed at me since I never made the statement that eating meat was bad. Someone who is steadfast in their argument here about facts wouldn't make a false claim in the same breath ;)

It's a fact that is happens, and the infrequency or rarity of the act doesn't validate it. Perhaps we should ignore homelessness because it only affects three percent of Americans.

Vegans can point to slaughterhouse anomalies as why meat eaters are 'bad.' But carnivores can likewise point to the inefficiencies of eating such select foods, where forests are chopped down and other environmental harm done in the name of planting more food.

If you want to do something good for yourself AND the environment, grow your own food and/or raise your own poultry/etc. Plus, it will taste better!

No- I saw what you wrote- I quoted you cause you had  after the quote about bikes propensity to post that video again and again and tout it like fact.

I'll agree with you to a point- I'm not saying it's OKAY that this happens- Just that it is NOT the standard. I fully agree there is no reason to torture animals that are going to be used for food...but that is a limited amount of it occuring- and I (and many others) seek to buy meat that is not processed in that manner...Bike would have everyone believe that no matter what meat you get- it's been brutalized and maltreated-That is a lie.

Also-Your homelessness argument relates to OTHER HUMANS. And if you were to say "We should ALL give up our houses some homeless people can have them" I would say you were a fool.

    Really? Seriously?
Please tell me your not praying for the fishies? Saving the fishies? Baby seals and the trees next?

Come on! Do we really have to go there? UGGHHHH!!!!
We have been "hurting" the animals for years. We as humans have been dining on anything that moves for thousands of years. And guess what? We will continue to it until we are all dust. Ever hear of Soylent Green? Maybe when we run out of fantastic tasting animals to eat and all the grass they shit on is gone and we cant eat that.
    Then what? SOYLENT GREEN
Eat them my friends and eat them well. Enjoy that fried baby seal on a stick. MMMMMMMMMMM!!!
BTW I hate seafood but they sure are fun to catch and throw back.

Large areas of the world's cropland now produce grains for animals. Wealthy meat-consuming regions dedicate the largest shares of their grain to fattening livestock, while the poorest regions use the least grain as feed. In the United States, for example, animals account for 70 percent of domestic grain use, while India and sub-Saharan Africa offer just 2 percent of their cereal harvest to livestock. (USDA FAS 1991)

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
That's 20 year old statistic. I'm sure it's changed considerably considering the land/corn needed for ethanol production.

Are you sure about that statistic? Grain production in montana is for BEER. Livestock take a close second.
