LOL not for a while at least. Might do something about the mirrors but otherwise there's not much I wanna do to the bike. Exhaust and tune maybe down the line but nothing urgent. I'm even shockingly okay with a clear windscreen

I just did their maintenance package to bundle into the financing. All scheduled maintenance for 6 visits or 36 mos covered.

BRP is aka Bombardier Recreational Products, part of Bombardier Corp that also makes aircraft and trains. If you have flown on a regional jet, you have likely flown in a Bombardier vehicle. Back in the day, the late 90s, before they spun the recreational products into BRP, they made a mean snowmobile with the ski doo products. Very stiff competition to Artic Cat, which is what I rode.

It would be interesting if they pick up KTM.

I'd like KTM to retain its identity, and not suffer layoffs in its home country but I'm in the camp that KTM needs to downsize, get rid of husky or gas gas, sell them or fold them, sell less but better bikes and step up with warranty.

Am I the only one surprised that any company wants KTM? It's been what (?) like 15-20 years now that if 'new' and 'dual sport/supermoto' get mentioned, then 80% of the replies are something along the lines of: "just get a KTM and you'll be happy," "just get a KTM they actually care about bikes," -- Yet they still choked up at staying in business despite sales and reputation like that. To me that would be an obvious sign of problems behind the scenes or mismanagement. I don't see how any business that's already successful would want to get involved besides buying the name

    My only slightly educated $0.02.

KTM kept producing when they should have slowed down, they made way too many bikes, bought too many other brands (gas gas, moto guzzi), and racked up way too much debt thinking that motorcycle segments were going to keep growing when their reality was the opposite and they had like a full year of bikes in inventory already made, with not enough people to buy them.

Their debt is a huge number for the motorcycle world, that'd scare away most buyers, IMHO. If someone had the capital to buy it up, and they felt confident they could fix supply chain and production issues (making too many bikes, getting suppliers manufacturing again, new camshafts lol), then they could potentially instantly buy their way to the best offroad, dual sport, and sumo bikes out there. Shed gas gas, differentiate Husky a bit, get rid of the C-suite that put them into the mess, start consistently making less motorcycles with more accurate forecasts, profit.

But yeah, realistically, you are buying the name, staff, and intellectual property, and like you said, if it's the gold standard 80% of the time that's worth a lot of $ to the right buyer.

It'll be interesting to see if it's bajaj getting more equity, or BMW, or BRP, or whom. I can't imagine a world where KTM just ceases to exist in some form or another.

    Hi folks,
I'm looking at moving to southern CA. I'm looking at getting a dirt bike after moving there. I understand that CA dirt bike laws are a bit *complex.* I think I've got most of the laws figured out, but I have questions:
    1) So all bikes older than 2003 are green sticker bikes? Even old 2-stroke bikes?
    2) Do park rangers hassle 2-stroke bikes more than 4-strokes?
    3) Any recs on places to ride around LA?

I'd probably want a green sticker, 2-stroke 125cc. I had an old kx125 that I used to ride trails with in the midwest, but then it got stolen :(

I remember reading somewhere awhile back (year maybe) that during the c-vid. The kept production rolling like normal with a thought process that people were still purchasing, and then realized no one was really buying new bikes on a world wide scale after a couple years. They supposedly still have a boat load of unsold, overstock of those bikes. That bought the mass production of new bikes to a dead stop (supposedly). To put us where we are at today.

    If I remember correctly.

This story is similar to what Harley Davidson did in the late 1990's and early 2000 years. Went from high demand with waiting lists, used bikes selling for the same prices as new ones, and adding capacity at their factories. New dealerships opening everywhere, older dealers forced to build new, much larger buildings, stock splits and buying up other manufacturers like MV Augusta for millions of dollars then doing nothing with it. Next thing you know recalls are going up, quality going down, layoffs at plants then later closing facilities to consolidate production.

Right. They should take a page out of Fujifilm's book. Fuji has been high demand for years, every since mirror less cameras took off. They have refused to increase production significantly. Recently the CEO said something along the lines of low production and high demand ensures they can produce a quality product that people stay excited about.

I'm just waiting until they die off as a "trendy" camera and prices go down... Not looking like it'll happen any time soon :annoyed:

I traded in my old Pentax dslr kit last year on a Fuji kit. Still expensive even with the trade in credit.
