And that really is the trick. I've been hunting a bit. I didn't like the silverado, I can tell you that much. Felt like a 80s, or early 90s Caprice Classic

    55k for a USED 22 T4R Pro. :rofl:Nope

I didn't want to sell the Nissan. If I had my way at the time, I'd have sold the Tacoma. Problem is, at the time, I didn't have anything else SHE could drive. Road trips, emergencies, whatever. She doesn't drive a manual. That is NOT being taken into account next time.

And it didnt make sense to have 2 midzise trucks. Oh, and I made a good grip on the Nissan.

    Anyway

I wont be doing that again...

I was eyeballing another 6spd Pro4x, but, found texas storm damage, and when I asked for specifics, radio silence. Got it. Flooding probably. Hard pass.

Reality is, I'm likley just pissing and moaning, and eventually pissing in the wind, and will continue with this thing. Unless the right deal comes

Reliability means nothing if I dont like driving it.

I'd be happy with my truck as 6spd.

I've toyed with the magnuson.. but, hate to drop 10k I won't get back, and not achieve the goal I'm after with it. ..

I'm late in replying - I don't check this thread as often as I should. Glad you didn't sink them in concrete - that is definitely not the way to go. Sounds like you did the correct New England thing, just a deep hole bottom filled with gravel and then backfilled around the level posts. Even with the fake modern creo posts you should be good for a couple decades. I'm a woodworker and manage some RE properties. This is the way I've been sinking fence and shed posts forever. For decks, which need more solid structure, you gotta go with concrete sonotube footings. But I'd put your chicken coop in the shed category and as long as your hole depth is close to the frost line and packed with gravel, which seems you did, I think you're gonna be good. Enjoy!! Share some eggs with us!

I use mine for the Boston Marathon. Otherwise, I probably get a similar usage.

I got my dog from Texas storm damage. Houston floods years back, BUNCH of catahoulas were sent up north into TN and AR (where Pepper came up north from).

Rebuilt titles are a pain in the balls too, insurance etc. So if it has one of those, plus the unknown of if it's hail or rain - yeesh. You can google the vin + "Auction" and see if it comes up, might get pictures of it from the auction and might find the listing, would indicate what it was that got jacked up. I'd take a hail rebuild BOF vehicle any day of the week :)

More power won't make these trucks better to drive, the AT is slop city. If you get a supercharger, then you just have more power going into a bowl of vomit. Still a bowl of vomit, just faster.

I planned to have this truck to about 100k, then trade in for something else. Then 2020 went kookoobananas and now I get to keep this truck until it rusts out from under me. But thanks to Jason, that will be a while now....

No real disagreement. The tune I'm running, is okay. It wants to hold a gear. Just shy of grunt. And I lock out 6th on the highway.
I'm just after a bit of low end torque, so I can cruise the highway without the transmission shifting non-stop. And where are positive displacement blower shines, is down low.

But, not willing to do the investment right now.

And yeah, I didn't plan on keeping mine past 21, but, when the time came, inventory was crap, value was up. Away went the Nissan.

I just want a mellow cruise down the highway. This truck has NEVER done that.

And part of the reason I'll never do business with Lia again, and tell everyone that asks, the same thing.

Fair. Yeah I hit sequential 5th on any on ramp too, but I cruise at 65-67, maybe up to 70 most days. Even then, on cruise control, she wants to hunt for 4th a lot. If I take control and don't use CC, I can keep it in 5th almost every time. It's shenanigans, the ranger was such a smoother ride

Doesn't make sense for me to have a second vehicle, but if/when I do, it will be a sedan of some sort for sure. I have actually been toying the idea of an EV - I only need 3-6 miles a day, and 200W of solar COULD get me there.

    upload_2025-5-8_13-15-21.png

I'd do it on a moped or E Bike, but not for 6 months out of the year, or in the rain, and I'd have to look at the rain in the afternoon every morning, and hope it doesn't change, etc. This would get me to and from work easy.

I just have to figure out how to get from solar panels to batteries. Easy on the house, hard on the car. And it would be a full EV, no ICE or plug in hybrid, point being to not have the ICE in the truck start without getting to temp constantly.

If you got a daily that means you can link your truck for the 120k scheduled maintenance.

our plug in hybrid, RAV4 Prime, the ICE doesn’t come on most days. It will run heater and seat warmers from battery. If I want ICE, press a button and the engine fires up. Or get up to 84 or something like that. Now, if I was getting a work commuter (under 20 to 30 miles), it would be full EV.

Oh, I mean if I get a daily, that truck is going to be toeing the line on street legal :)

I'm with you, if I was going more than 3 miles I would consider the plug in hybrid, then I can charge when I can, but I can hit the gas station if I need to as well. This is going up to maybe 5 miles from home

And the panels on the roof means I could never be plugging it in. IN THEORY. I have to figure out if this is physically possible, then budgetary.

I keep wondering why we are not seeing solar panels on top of some of these EV's. It might not provide a ton of juice, but some. Lots of these vehicls sit in an open parking lot all day under the sun, free energy for the taking, if we can harness it.

Cause ev's use a stupid amount of power. I think youd only be able to fit 400 watts total on the roof and thats generous.

With 400 watts youd be talking about .4 miles per hour charging peak.

edit. Also who has 220V at 80 amp breaker for anything else? I thought they topped out at 50 a for residential stuff

When I started looking at this, I found a TON of posts of people asking the same thing. And the consesus was basically "It'll only get you MAYBE 4-5 miles a day, don't do it" but that's literally exactly what I'm looking for, so it's annoying to try to filter through every response being "You won't get enough charge, only a couple miles" BITCH THAT'S WHAT I WANT

^^^ Yup, I am thinking 200W (2x100W panels fixed to the roof).

My issue is how to get it into the batteries, at the right voltage, and without locking out the car (some say "thou art charging, thou shalt not be able to drive", probably to protect charging cables being yoinked off of chargers). I know (in "theory") step up/down converters exist, not sure if they exist for exactly what I need though. Panels are cheap, I have a feeling that panel <> battery connection is where it's going to get $$$$$$$ (if it even is possible).

    These things exist.

EVs are great, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. There's a lot of hatred against them in the car enthusiast world, but for a daily commute they're absolutely perfect. Ioniq 5 and EV6 in particular are great. Mach E is also really good.

There's a few cars with solar available: https://www.edmunds.com/electric-car/articles/electric-cars-with-solar-panels.html

Oh, 100%. I don't like them on the trails because of the weight, they are HEAVY. They do a lot of damage to the roads too because of the weights. But, trade offs etc.

My issue is the budget - if I was looking for a single car, I'd jump on a Prius Prime or another plug in hybrid. But for longer trips I have the truck, and we have a hybrid camry too. This is basically a cheap way to not deal with the ICE in the truck for my 3 miles per day. So my budget is about 5K ish if I make this happen. The Leaf is old and the solar wasn't for the main battery, and I think the Prius Prime and Hyundai Ioniq are 30-40k+ since they're newer.

Hybrid and PHEV is the best of both worlds. Skip the Leaf. No bueno.
