It’s hard to tell from the picture cause it magnifies everything but it should just be fine shavings.

so far I’m getting about the same gas mileage as I had with the misfire. Is that normal? It can’t be!

It will improve considerably as the engine breaks in.

okay that’s good news! I have 176 miles on it right now. Did my first oil change Monday at 115 miles. Now I’m going 500 miles on this oil.

Check your mpg again around 2,500. It’s usually less than this but by then you will probably see the best you are going to get.

so my cousin filled the oil the first time before the first start while I was at work and put in the Valvoline that I bought so at 115 I dumped it and put in the royal purple. What should I put in next?

Did you decide if you was gonna use conventional or full synthetic? You will find that oil is very debatable on here. I like Mobile 1 myself, but since you’ve already been using Valvoline, I would either use the 10 W 30 that you started out with which I think you used conventional or changed to full synthetic. It’s just up to you.

yeah the valvoline was conventional. I just don’t know what’s best and I hope someone on here does or has an opinion. I know full synthetic is better but is that what’s best for the engine?

At 24K I'm just now going into the full synthetic

I wanted the engine to breakin with the oil it was designed with in that period

but I wanted the new additives....

its really all about the additives package......the base oil is gonna be the same in all of them

that oilgeek has it down to three top dogs.......

and its not mobile or castrol anymore......they've slipped behind.... asleep at the wheel

Its valvoline XP........ultra platium (pensoil).......and one other totally unexpected

thats the one I went with.....they delivered 2 'fives' last week

I've been running the napa syn blend from 4K to til now.......just dumped it last week

    been changing about 2K intervals

for that 1st 4K after the 'RP.'.. I run the VR1......changed like at 1200mi intervals

Running high zinc for too long can damage your cat......I had a new one so had plenty of room to spare

I have no cat so not worried about that but thanks for the input. I’ll probably go to the vr1 after this royal purple.

I dont change the filter till about the 3 or 4th time.....
cause its steady fresh new oil.....

but you can see I'm really only doing a 80% change at best, between the filters.......so 2K is not too crazy....

4 qts of the syn blend equated to about $9....at least before covid

2rz's are a breeze to change...5min for me

I have a pair of jaws to rip the filter off ........never had a vehicle with this tight a filter
    3rz was just as hard

modern oil is detergent oil......instead of letting the crap settle out in the pan......
they did you favor and now it all stays in suspension.....
It's better to get that out.....sooner than later.........dialysis

and yeah the milage has steadily gotten better....not a bunch, but its noticeable

    prob around 26/27 ...../Auto
and I never see that....city is about 2/3 that

Now that I graduated to full syn school.......I'll prob change oil every 2.5Kish
    and filter @ 7.5K

I probably only put 6K on it a year.....

we'll compare notes......I'm sure you'll catch up to me in no time

when anything goes wrong on mine.....I'm not afraid ......I'm pissed

'Control Car' is kinda in same boat as us......drank/sloshed the 2.4 kool-aid

so my next oil change should I switch to the oil I’m going to use for good or? I put about 12k on mine a year. I change the filter every change. I’m not worried about the $7 filter each time.

didnt really care about the cost of the filter.....I just needed the quick splash and dash.....religously

    actually....excitedly

thought it was a waste of a good filter ....to tax it 10%....and toss it
    crazy ... I know

if these had 200k , sludge, oil delution, I'd be right there with you

but not for a brandnew engine.....

Im trying to make sure the 'additives' are always fresh and up to full strength
engines are not fun places to reside....

all chain driven engines......actually mechanically 'shear' the oil over time
the base oil doesn't change......the additives slowly get destroyed

also with 4qts minus the filter....thats not much oil
    not like a big block with 8 ~ 10qts
not a lot of real estate to work with

Filled up last Friday morning and now I’m at 1/2 tank. I’d say I drove about 180 miles. I disconnected my negative yesterday for like 2 minutes and my trip a reset so it’s roughly 180 miles for 1/2 tank.
