You can also choose the Basic SR trim and still get a decent truck for $40k. You don’t have to pay $60k for the premium.

it used to be a great option for me but they got greedy and started neutering it forcing me into SR5 and up on the 4th gen... I'm glad I snagged one of the last new 2023 SR 4WDs before they did that...

They did this with the 3rd gen too. I can’t remember what year the sr got intermittent wipers.

I mean I get the pricing difference if it was a smaller motor or something like that. But detuning it with computer code to charge less is ridiculous

It had the Nissan Frontier, Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, Honda Ridgeline, and later Jeep Gladiator as competition. Only new entrant to the segment now is the Ford Ranger.

Great idea, poor execution, because it was priced not much lower than a TRD OR, but missing mainstream convenience features like mirror turn signals, along with the OR's off-road electronic features like MTS/A-Trac.

As has already been covered the last time you said this, there are other changes besides “computer code,” such as cooling system differences.

Haven't seen one up close, but every new model is the end of it all since the 80s. Then at some point, each generation becomes the best. Interesting long-term cycle.

No forums then, but I do recall a lot of teeth gnashing at it.

My son has a 1985 with the SFA.

Because the manual is already neutered.

Curious, when 1st gen Tacomas were introduced in 1995, did people complain as well? "Not a real Toyota truck!" "Watered-down Hilux!" Lol

People complain about everything. It’s in their nature.

It's only 50hp probably wouldn't even notice it was gone, might be nice to those 50 horses when you run the AC.

What is it 270hp compared to the 278hp in the auto? I probably said this before, the auto trucks are probably making 270 at the fly wheel same as the manual. The auto trans probably does a better job of managing the power. 8hp difference between the two engines seems a little close. I'm sure the manual and auto are tuned differently, that 8hp sounds awfully smoke and mirrors to me. 300hp isn't much more than 278.

I know I was wondering why Toyota started naming their trucks back when. I liked the pick up.
