Lower control arm suggestion?

I need to replace my lower control arms and the only options i really have are Moog, Mevotech or Napa just wondering what you guys think would be the best option, thanks.

 

I have heard mevotech is alright, lots of bad reviews on here from Moog. None of those three options will last as long as OEM, but it depends on your needs. I went with some cheap arms from TRQ (1A auto) and no issues yet with 3k miles, but I don’t expect to get much more than 30-40k out of them. Which is Ok with me because I don’t drive my truck as much anymore.

 

Fork out the cash, even though there are cheaper options, and buy OEM

 

this is the only way to ensure your getting the same quality part that has a good 10 years. I used to go through them once evry 2ish years or so on my 05 until i went total chaos. wasent soo much the bushings or balljoint but i would get cracking around the welds near the bushing sleeves. I was also a complete nut about maintenence.

 

^This - assuming you're not planning on selling the truck soon. OEM is worth it if you're keeping the vehicle.

10 year old truck in Canada means the cam bolts are likely seized and would need to be cut out with a sawzall, so make sure you really need to replace the lower arms before you proceed, and budget an extra $500 or so for replacement cam bolts. Unlike the control arms, aftermarket cam bolts wallow out and fail quickly, so the pricey OEM cam bolts are the only viable option if you have stock-ish suspension.

If the ball joint is failing, you can replace the ball joint in-situ with a C-clamp style press. Replacement ball joints are available from Moog, Mevotech, and OEM (through Japan-based sellers on eBay, not sold by dealers). If the bushings are torn, then replacing the whole arm makes sense, in which case either Mevotech or Moog are fine for the truck's remaining life expectancy. Mevotech is a Canadian company for what it's worth, though both are made in China.

 

I ordered an entire set of new OEM LCA hardware in February. It was less than $220 shipped.

If you're keeping the vehicle for a while, go OEM Toyota control arms. They will last more than twice as long as any Moog or Mevotech garbage.

You can definitely find them online in Canada.

I have a Pre runner. Looking at Rock Auto for example, lower control arms may specify prerunner or 4x4 (some say both) However the OEM cross reference numbers are the same. Any idea why Moog for example would have RK623263 and

$108 RK621293 Front Right Lower Suspension Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly for Toyota Tacoma

RK621293 for the same compatibility number? There is a $15 price difference. I would also buy a set of lower mileage takeoffs if anyone has some.

 

I would replace the BJs on aftermarket LCA’s. The bushings should last about 100K but the BJ’s will likely wear out by 25K. I got Dorman LCA’s and the BJs had excessive play by 20K.

 

I purchased carquest control arms when advance auto went out of business in my area for about 19$ per side 90%off .they have been good so far at 10k .I had the Cv axle out and still struggled to move the ball joint it was still as tight as when it came out of the box.
