I’m looking to upgrade my ‘18 TRD Off Road exhaust for performance, but I want it as quiet as possible. Any suggestions?

You won’t find any performance upgrades with an exhaust on this engine.

    Agreed.

OP, if you decide you are still interested in something I highly recommend the Borla CB. Best I can describe the sound level is OEM+. I'm very happy with mine but also don't like loud exhaust.

TRD Pro Catback or Borla S Type. Not so much a performance upgrade as an improvement in sound. All the other brands will rasp and sound like buffalo flatulence on a snare drum. Not what you want on long road trips imo.

    I have the trd catback.

    Top Picks Explained:

    • AWE 0FG Exhaust with BashGuard: This system features AWE’s patented 180 Technology®, which effectively cancels drone frequencies, ensuring a quiet cabin experience. Its true-dual design and bespoke H-pipe contribute to a deep, resonant tone without harshness. The included BashGuard offers added protection for off-road adventures. • Milltek Resonated Cat-Back Exhaust: Designed with a resonated system, this exhaust provides a refined sound with minimal cabin drone. Its high clearance outlet is ideal for off-road applications, ensuring durability and performance. X-Ph+2X-Ph+2TheYotaGarage+2

    • Carven Exhaust Progressive Series Cat-Back: This exhaust delivers a deeper growl during acceleration while maintaining a quiet cabin at cruising speeds. Its TR Performance muffler and 304 stainless steel construction ensure longevity and performance. Vivid Racing
Each of these options offers a balance between performance and noise reduction, catering to different preferences and needs. Consider your driving habits and whether off-road clearance is a priority to choose the best fit for your Tacoma.

Dobinson IMS lift, Greenlane bumper/skids/sliders/bed stiffeners, Sherpa Grand Teton rack, OTT
If you want to keep it civilized with respect to volume/drone, the TRD exhaust is the best option. I tried the AWE OFG exhaust and it was unbearable in the midrange (great at idle and WOT), I had to put the TRD exhaust back on.

V6s and 4 cylinders have no business being heard on the road. They just need to be quiet. I would get something like the exhaust on my SR V6. It is completely quiet.

Unless it sounds like this I don't want to hear it

I have the Magnaflow catback. There is no performance gain. Only sound. Had I not bought it at a huge discount from another TW member, I would not have bought it at all.

Generally speaking from a performance standpoint, if you want to uncork HP from the exhaust, less or no muffler is the way to go. Quiet and power is counterintuitive. This is why race cars are super loud. Regardless, you will not see noticeable gains from swapping mufflers/catback. Your best bet is to keep the stock exhaust and get a performance tune.
