    Amanda took Hannah to the vet where Emily had been bringing her since she moved back to Pennsylvania, and she has Lyme Disease but is otherwise in good health. The cost of treatment is likely to be over $300, but she should make a full recovery. This dog stood by Emily's side for the better part of a day after she died, and she is the sweetest dog ever, so the least we can do is treat the Lyme Disease. Also, it turns out that she is 9 and not 10, and will be turning 10 in November.

    Thank you for looking after Hannah - such a good girl!
    Any long term plans for her, as of yet?

    Amanda is keeping her. My parents, my neighbors, Amanda’s landlady are helping us out financially; I think everybody involved has become attached to Hannah. I was honestly shocked when I texted my parents to ask if we could bring Hannah home, and they said yes.

    Very glad to hear this! At least she'll be around some folks that she's familiar with, and it sounds like she's a terrific pup!

    Amanda just bought a commuter beater (2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser) from her landlady probably two weeks before Emily passed away, for just $800! In all, including the cost of car itself, we will be into it for probably $3,200. This includes insurance, tax, registration, and almost $1,600 worth of work that the car needs.

    Emily had a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander that her dad bought her, in cash, back in 2021 or 2022. It unfortunately not AWD, but it has less than 100K miles and dad recently spent a fortune having some things fixed. The A/C works and it has a clean title.

    The title is in solely in Emily’s name, which means that Emily’s dad will need a death certificate to transfer the title. This won’t be hard, but we don’t know how low Emily’s dad is willing to go on the price. Book value is lower than that of my truck, which is five years older and is creeping up on 220K miles. Doesn’t really shock me, as Toyota is far superior to Mitsubishi.

    However, the car is in okay condition and over a decade newer than the PT Cruiser. If the stars align (Emily’s dad lets us have it cheap or just gives it to us), we will sell the Chrysler and buy the Mitsubishi. Amanda would like to have something to remember Emily by, but if it doesn’t work out then she will just keep the Chrysler. The 6-month insurance premium on the Mitsubishi is like $200 more than the Chrysler, and I don’t know what the Mitsubishi needs in terms of maintenance. The Chrysler has been looked over by my mechanic and really just needs rear shocks to pass inspection, but it will be getting some other stuff just because we are OCD about vehicle maintenance.

    @Breknraj

    The pic above shows my Tacoma parked next to Emily’s Mitsubishi when we were there on Monday to get some supplies for Hannah that Emily’s dad left on the patio for us…

    Things have gotten better in terms of flashbacks to Saturday night, but what I’m focused on right now is when I ran up to Emily’s condo and saw her through the window. As I was banging on the glass and screaming Emily’s name, things seemed to go into slow motion. My therapist later told me that this was likely the result of an adrenaline rush. Amanda thought she saw Emily’s stomach go up and down at least twice, which really led us both to believe she was still alive. I would say that we arrived shortly before 8:40PM, because 8:40PM is when I called 911. Police and EMS arrived at about 8:46PM, and at about 8:51PM, Emily was declared dead by the paramedics. As soon as the cop turned on the lights, the facade of Emily simply being unconscious vaporized. Hannah, from what we can tell, pretty much never left her side until she heard mine and Amanda’s voices.
