Is the Tacoma moving in a favorable direction (1st gen to 4th gen)??

Discussion in '4th Gen. Tacomas (2024+)' started by yotadust, Apr 24, 2025.

?

Toyota is selling brand new Tacos gen 1 thru 4 for 4th gen price. Pick one...

  1. 1st gen

  2. 2nd gen

  3. 3rd gen

  4. 4th gen

so towing on flat ground you just push tow mode, and when towing in the hills you can turn ECT and tow mode on at the same time?

Don't you have to get out and get back in on the passenger side to access those buttons and knobs? I'm right handed those controls are for left handed drivers.

it looks stronger than the old 4wd knob but it looks a little cheesy with the fake screws kind of like G-Shock watches. Whoever at Toyota that drew that out on paper needs to settle down a little bit lol

I find it more cumbersome than the 2nd and 3rd gen knobs. Those trucks you pretty much clicked it in without looking at it. I almost have to look at the 4th gen one to select 4WD. Maybe I'm just weird and the only one :notsure:

Most people, including myself :anonymous: , just want to "push" a button and be done.

Wife's 4Runner has that setup. She keeps a bunch of crap (lip balm, keys, nail files, hair ties, charging cables, etc.) in the 4X selector boot/pocket. When driving the selector vibrates slightly and starts to click/make noise because of the junk next to it. I pull it out and toss it on the floor behind me. Then she gets mad at me for moving her stuff...

I’ve gotten used to letting it shift up into third and then pouring on some boost

I've experimented with turning the traction control off and taking off quickly. It seems to pick up better? Might just be a placebo affect. TC comes back on automatically around 30mph.

This isn’t the question for this thread? Rate interior but exclude the most significant improvement (seat position)?

I thought I had you working on overall gearing ratios 1st gear, 4lo, automatic or manual, gen 1 thru gen 4?? Do you think 4th gen is going to come in numerically highest with the manual trans? I wonder how close it comes to Gladiator at factory 100:1 1st gear 4lo crawl with 4:1 t case and 4.88s from the factory?
