Have 2004 Tacoma trd. Have a bad 4wd actuator. Took out but new ones fork is in a different position. So I can’t put it in the front dif. How do you change new ones fork to be in the same position old one is in? Tried for hours to get new one in. Please help

From the look of it, looks like yours is engaged and the new one unlock. Check to collar in the tube, adjust the collar and aligned it to the new position.

You can’t move the actuator fork by hand. I was referring to the collar in the clamshell where the actuator fork is seated. The collar will move freely unless it’s at a bind.

Ok will try that. What if it’s in a bind? Does jacking up tires help?

Yes, jacking both tire of the ground and rotating them will help.
Be safe tho, use Jack stand along with Jack. Don’t go snooping under without support.

4wd light blinks. Even if you push the button to off it still blinks. I’ve tried putting it in neutral and revered it for 1/2 mile still the same
Is there a relay to check? It goes in 4 wheel low. Don’t know what to check besides fuses and a relay. Do you know where 4wd relay is?

If you’re driving around in 4hi even though you’re not engaged, you might have a stuck tcase actuator or bad tcase. Can you confirm you’re in 2wd even though the 4x4 (4hi) light is flashing? Simply spinning your front driveshaft will tell, if it spins freely, you’re in 2wd. If it doesn’t spin, it’s in 4hi.

the issue can be as simple as a stuck 4wd switch on the side of the tcase. Your truck does have a 4wd computer (some refer it to as a ADD relay). Depending on year, located behind the glove box for 95.5-00 and newer 01-04 are located behind the dual cigarette plugs underneath the ash tray/coin holder.

Even if it’s an auto matic? I’ll check that add relay 4wd computer behind ash tray. Front drive line don’t spin freely either. but tires don’t spin front drive line. So dif is in 4wd but hubs are not

Yes, it will have a 4wd computer.

TBH, I think your issue is with the tcase actuator. Take a rubber mallet and lightly tap the actuator, maybe it’ll break loose and unlock.

Check the push button continuity to ensure it is working properly. A flashing 4wd light indicates it will trying to engage or disengage. Have you try to disconnect the tcase actuator plug?
