I thought I "need" either m18 compact impact driver and drill set vs m12 fuel similar set. I was good to my wallet and didn't buy either today.

 

The batteries have a BMS that won’t let them kill themselves by draining dead flat, the tool will stop working with enough reserve in the tank. So it’s not the worst thing to run them down.

But in theory, lithium ion batteries in general prefer to operate in the 20% to 80% range, so deep discharges (and actually storing them fully charged) will have some negative impact over the long term. This is true for your phone and laptop as well.

All that said, I treat my tool batteries as tools, and don’t worry too much about babying them

 

I knew they were knockoffs when I bought them. I figured how bad can they be. Super cheap compared to Milwaukees. CP2.5s. Well I found out how bad. They worked fine but run the tool only about 1/3 as long as the real thing. Took them to the recycling center before they caused any serious problems.

 

That surprises me, I just sent in an M12 Fuel drill last week for a similar issue and they sent me a new one in 3 days. Sorry for your bad experience.

 

Brush cutter attachment worked a treat for clearing the blackberry-infested corner of my yard over the weekend. Worth the $100 for sure. Still not a fun job, though, and I have the scars to prove it, ha

Tell us more about this trailer please.

 

I bought it on Craigslist recently being sold as a “forest service trailer”. Seems to be an M100 military trailer-style frame, without the tub. The axles and leaf springs are beefy, no shocks or shock mounts on it though. Title is from ‘65.

The deck was rotted out so I just rebuilt it into what you see. Made it so the sides can be removed and used as ramps for loading the dirt bike, and that black plate is a base for a wheel chock. Takes about 5 minutes to convert, but I don’t have any good pics of bike mode at the moment, tested that at night. Gotta start hitting the trails now that the suns out again.

It’s pretty narrow so it tracks easy, but impossible to see so I had to add those markers. Being short makes it tough to reverse as well, but part of that is just my lack of towing experience

 

i had to drop off some dead batteries at home depot's battery recycling bin.

i'm also really tired of using my saw blade edger--too much of a pain to swap between trimming and edging duties. i wish i had waited for the quik loc version.

but $300 for a fast charger, 8.0 forge, weed trimmer, and edger attachment wasn't too bad.

I highly recommend learning to edge with a trimmer, it took me about 3 hours over a month before I got the form down but afterwards the edges looked like I had used the edger. I only use the edger when grass is really overgrown like I will need to rake up the edge clippings. The quality of the edge will also depend greatly on what trimmer line you use. Best line I found for both edging and trimming is this rino tuff line.

i use free saw blades for edger discs. carpenters are always throwing them away because they're too dull to cut wood, but more than enough to cut dirt.

i've got other lawn issues i really don't have infinite money and time to deal with, like semi-impervious steel-like weeds to contend with(never gotten any fertilizer to kill off any of them), so any string trimmers tend to not cut it, literally and figuratively.

 

Got a birthday present from my best buddy! This 2562-20 takes my F150s lug nuts torqued at 150ftlbs right off!

Pro Tip

Don't put your red travel coffee mug amongst your Milwaukee tools. One might spend too much time looking for it around the house swearing that you remembered where you put it.

 

for a 'homeowner' kit, it's not terrible. but if you're using it for anything serious or work-related, those are all pretty low end tools i wouldn't normally suggest outside of basic homeowner functionality. i started with that impact and drill. the impact won't always drive 1-1/4" drywall screws into harder woods. the drill barely will work with a 1/4" drill bit in soft wood. the hackzall--if you really need it, i highly recommend the m18 version instead for the higher capacity batteries. the m12 lineup is severely capacity-limited for a tool like that. the 1.5Ah batteries are also pretty weak for most things as well. and i gave away my m12 and m18 flashlights like that. i found their output was too narrow to be used as a work light in most cases. there's a dozen different headlamps and handheld flashlights, some even within the milwaukee catalogue, that do far better in nearly all situations.

of note, that ratchet routinely goes on sale for $100, sometimes with a battery.

if your goal is only to get the ratchet, the installation driver with the two 2.0 batteries for the same $200 is a bit of a better deal, at least currently. i really would suggest watching the deals for a month and see if anything better pops up for that ratchet.
