    Hello all

any tips on how to Jimmy rig the heat shield from vibrating while truck it warming up. NOT an exhaust leak. I just replaced with a brand new exhaust manifold and heat shield. And check my fuel trims to verify there’s no exhaust leak from pirate air. All the bolts are secured to the heat shield but I wanna know if ppl have done other things to quiet down the vibration when truck is cold. Once truck warms up vibration goes away.

Just that dang rattle when taking off when the truck it cold is beyond annoying lol

Was wondering it there’s any way ppl went about quieting down that vibration from the shield.
    Thanks.

Sometimes a washer under the shields bolts will space it away enough, you are going to have to get creative, even a slight tweak might solve it.

OKAY im an idiot lol I know what the sound that I was hearing smh ‍♂️

my mechanic didn’t locktite the down pipe to manifold bolts/nut so they came loose/fell off and caused a small leak lol I looked under the truck and noticed it. When I smacked on the throttle I could hear the wizzing sound right at this area where the down pipe meets the manifold lol

well at least I know it wasn’t the heat shield lmfao. He’s going to correct the issue tomorrow free of charge hey we all make mistakes. Just glad it wasn’t a major one for me lol

LCE makes em for CA. I have a set on my truck with their exhaust and it's pretty awesome.

    Ohhhh no way ?
    Good looking out

I’m going to look into them. Always hated manifolds man. Dealing with leaks from manifolds can be a PITA ‍♂️‍♂️

My setup. It really lets that 3RZ zing. Sounds awesome. No drone at highway speed. Or at all. Not cheap by any measure but it's a sweet setup.

LockTite might work, depending on specific heat rate. I honestly think prevailing torque lock nuts will work better.

Ok awesome I’ll look into those.

I don’t even know what the torque spec would be for those down pipe nut smh
Been trying to find out but nothing definitive.

You can always use the bolt size and grade to work out max torque, but they are probably 35-45 ft/lb, if that. Snug with a quarter turn is about right. They don't need much, just check check them after a few heat cycles.

But if you really want to know I have the factory shop manuals, I can check for ya

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Luckily they are easy to access with a good socket and ratchet.

    But appreciate all the help

Yeah, that wasnt from lack of loctite....
    Find a new mechanic...
It was either left finger tight / started & never zapped, not put on at all, on all fords those nuts are 1 time use.....
The threads are along to lock them inplace, by re-using them, youre not doing yourself any favors.

    Glad you found it though.

yeah I’m definitely talking to him about this tomorrow and I’m going to watch him fix this tomorrow when I stop by. I normally do all my work but took a new manifold to him to install because I was swamped with work. OH well you live and you learn lol

but I’m glad I found it and it wasn’t anything major.

    Update/

installed torque locking nuts with some loctite for extra safety and no more hissing or leak lol

thanks to all for the help
