Sounds like something is loose. Why not take a visit to the dealership and have the pros figure it out. It’s still under warranty.

Mine does it too. I think it's been discussed on here and other forums. It seems to be caused by a weather strip at the base of the windshield that contacts the rear of the engine hood. Lube seems to cure it temporarily.

I’m convinced you’re right — it’s nice out today and not a sound. Tomorrow I’m going to the dealership, but I don’t think it will change anything.

I've been trying to chase down this noise for months and the dealer had no solution. I'm at like 3500 miles and I brought it to the dealer about 3 months ago for this noise. Had the top tech take a ride with me and he confirmed he heard the noise but a day later they couldn't replicate it. They reached out to Toyota and retorqued all suspension components to spec and the noise is still there. Drives me crazy knowing its there sometimes but I think I've learned to live with it until my next oil change then I'll try again with a different dealer. This is the first time I've heard of the weather strip I always thought it was coming from the front right wheel area. Mine also does it going in a straight line like 10 mph or less.

Did you find out the cause of the ball joint failure?

    No, yet it’s a city truck — I don’t do any off-roading.
