lost the HVAC blower on my 2009 Tacoma

For years, the HVAC fan speed control in my 2009 Tacoma has been squirrely. Speeds 1 and 2 were lower than they originally were when the truck was new. Sometimes, I'd have to use speed 3 to get anything at all.

Yesterday, the blower stopped working altogether, even on speed 4.

I ordered a blower resistor. In the meantime, what is the blower fuse labeled as (it's not obvious), and how many amps is it?

Also, there's some confusion as to whether I'll need a new connector. The connector I have looks fine, and there are no signs of charring or corrosion. Will the factory connector work with the new resistor, which I believe will be an updated design?

If I do need a new connector, will it need to be spliced into an existing wiring harness?

    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks.

    This is extremely helpful.

So I looked for the 10-amp IG1 No. 2 fuse in the under-hood fuse block for longer than I want to admit, but could not find it.

Any clues as to where it might be hiding?

    ETA:

Found it in the in-cabin block. I'm not near the truck now, but will check it. I reckon if IG1 No 2 were blown, though, there would be other weird $hit going on.

    So this is interesting...

Tonight, just for the heck of it, I plugged the wiring harness back into the resistor and tried the blower. It magically works again. All 4 speeds, like new.

I then tried wiggling both the resistor harness and the blower harness to see if the blower would cut out. It did not. Fine.

    Wonder what happened?

    Am I good now?

^This must be what owning a GM vehicle is like all the time. Instead you only have to deal with a GM-supplied HVAC system in a truck 50% built by GM.

Dead spot in the blower motor perhaps?

The resistor connector didn't change with the P/N roll. The new Denso resistor is plug & play. (I had a 2010 access cab and replaced both the resistor and blower motor, the latter due to chirping.)

You may want to check your blower switch for burnt pins.

Wait, my 2009 has a GM HVAC system?

Sorry, that went over my head.

^The HVAC system supplier was Delphi, a division of GM. Your truck was built in facility 50% owned by GM, with UAW unionized labor (hence the door jamb label "New United Motor Manufacturing..." instead of "Toyota Motor Manufacturing..."). The plant also produced the Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix, both of which use the same cabin filter as your truck, not a coincidence.

Is the “new” Mexican plant that builds the Gen 4 a better plant?

^:notsure: I don't think any of us has public data on each plant's quality metrics. However, Toyota no longer had GM-supplied systems after GM's bankruptcy in 2010.

The blower stopped working again this morning. I gave it a hit with the 'ol fist, and it begrudgingly started up. I guess it's the blower itself. Ordered one this morning.

^Probably a dead spot on the Vietnamese GM blower then.

Same thing happened in my daughter's 2006. It was the blower also.
