    with whom?

safelite just called me and told me OEM glass is back-ordered nationally until august (but that realistically they expect it to be available in 4-6 weeks) and that there is not currently an aftermarket option (or maybe they just don't do it).

guys, don't break your windshields right now

I had an issue with my RAV4 Prime where the windshield cracked down at the bottom behind the wiper blade at about 6,000 miles. Now a little back story, I had serious issues with condensation on only the inside the windshield. This was discussed with service, but nothing done up until this point as it was going to get dealt with on the 10K service. Now when the crack happened I was doing about 5 MPH making a quite off-camber turn and suddenly "Crack" and I had about 5 " long crack. Brought it in to dealer and service manager said something hit windshield and not under warranty. I made the argument that there may have been a chassis flex and the windshield may not be sealed. I was denied and he told me to call insurance and get a windshield put in. I put in the claim and insurance sends me to Safelite and I get a new windshield. Fast forward about 2 months and still getting this condensation. Dealer does water testing, pulls carpets and finds nothing and tells me that Toyota will not warranty any more leak testing since the windshield was not installed at the dealer and that it is not a Toyota windshield. Not end of story, but I will end it here for now.

Be cautious. Outside vendor doing windshield may void warranty.

that's an unfortunate series of events, but i ain't shelling out a grand for a toyota dealership to replace my windshield when safelite will install a new OEM one through my insurance at no cost to me (if they ever find one).

See if the insurance will cover Toyota to install. If you have a leak in a sunroof or anywhere in your truck, it will cost you way more than a few hundred dollars in price difference.

My leak problem still isn't fixed and Safelite has replaced my windshield a second time. Leak is elsewhere in the RAV4. I will have to go a legal route or dump the vehicle. The killer to the story is that my dealership would have used Safelite to install a OEM Toyota windshield if I bought it directly through the Toyota dealership, but having the insurance set it up directly with Safelite and Safelite installing there own windshield fucked my warranty.

safelite here is horrible I wouldent trust them with my nephews friends jeep powerwheel! Theres a reason the insurance companys pair with safelite and it only has to do with $$$. With lower price usually comes lower quality/inexperenced skilled labor, inferior supplies and "oem quality" or "like OEM" windshield. This is not a factory toyota windshield and when you have things like safety sense on your vehicle this all matters.

Insurance covered toyota to do the replacement of mine. They even have a person at the dealer than handles only that. They cant say crap about warranty because they did the work as well. It was like a 1300$ bill so its a hard one to swallow if I was footing the bill. But even my glass guy wanted 1K installed for factory toyota windshield.

Just like they cant tell you what repair shop to use, they cant dictate who repairs the windshield either. they will try to steer you and make it hard for you but its your decision.

none of the dealerships in my area (called 4 then gave up) do windshields - they all farm them out to local shops. and i confirmed again with safelite it will be an OEM (Toyota) windshield when they do finally get one - that is apparently all they are allowed to use for now.

Thats a bummer. skilled techs are something of a thing of the past. I used to do bmws back in the day at the dealer and with their tools it was stupid simple.

My dealer boasts about being one of the biggest on the west coast and they have a guy thats does windshelds all day. along with that las vegas should be named "dirt truck city", so the auto glass industry is doing well here
