Question for you guys about charging shocks.
How often do you recharge/ check psi?
How much psi do you seem to lose over time?
Is this the same for your shocks and hydro bumps?

 

I’ve never thought about it outside of when I get the shocks rebuilt, but I’ve also never that my shock was low at rebuild time.

 

If they leak you might need to rebuild them anyway.

 

I will usually recharge them once a year unless doing a rebuild. Which for me is like every 1500-2000 miles. And rebuild every other year. It’s usually part of either my koh prep or Labor Day prep.

 

I have done once a year so far, the shocks have lost around 30psi. But the bumps both times have been 50 or less, coming from 150. Not sure how fast they are losing, going to keep up on them better this year. Guessing they need rebuilt, any ideas why they went so fast?

 

You’re going to lose pressure just checking it. Even with a no loss chuck. Especially with the bumps because there is such a small volume in there. I never just “check” mine. They get drooped out and just recharged.

 

If you're really worried about leaks, establish a rebuild interval based on your use. Best way to ensure you are pressurized and seals are in good condition.

 

That makes sense. I’m charging at ride height, bumps aren’t touching, should I be doing that different?

That makes sense, not sure what interval that should be. Truck goes to the woods or high desert at least once a month, couple trips to the dunes a year. And usually 1-2 rock crawling type trips a year.

 

If you need an interval, just do 10k. That gives you 4 checks before the recommended 50k rebuild. For me that's also my oil change interval.

 

You want to charge at full extension. So bumps at ride height are fine, but shocks you want to droop out. I usually don’t pull limit straps because that’s close enough, but ride height for shocks is not going to be good. 200psi at ride height will be much less than that drooped

Random question: is everyone on 35s running the LCA pivot kid with the LCA pushed as far forward as possible?

JD installed mine pushed all the way back and I've been fighting alignment issues the last few months, considering shuffling them forward to get my caster a little more managable.

 

When we install their kits, we usually go one step back from all the way forward.

 

This came across my feed recently about a product that fixes an interference between 934CVs to the steering pinion. Is this an issue I just haven’t heard about?
I admit I can’t say I’ve ever looked at the clearance between the two on my truck and it’s been so rainy and muddy (and cold) the past couple days here in BC I haven’t had the motivation to really look up there yet.

There can be. Honestly it's a truck by truck basis, some touch, some don't. Usually we shave the little bolt head down a touch and that's enough. Sometimes we have to space the rack up a hair.

Not sure what their "precision machined billet spacer" is. A big washer that covers the whole bushing will do the trick.
