Simple project. I picked up a camp axe and had to figure out how to secure it in the bed where I keep some of my off road camping gear permanently under the BakFlip cover.

The rest of my recovery gear, straps, shackles etc, along with my compressor and FasterFlate system get added, strapped down in the bed, when I'm going off road. This leaves the bed open for hauling things when needed between trips.

I relocated the Quickfist clamps for the shovel lower on the hardwood mount I hung from the bed track. I then added another hardwood piece behind the two hardwood mounts and mounted the two QuickFist clamps I had in my parts bin to hold the axe.

    Worked out pretty good.

I like your setup, I was thinking of doing something similar for the fire extinguisher and gas can. Are those Rago bed rails? How well do they fit with the Bakflip since you have to relocate the bed rails?

Did the oil change on my truck yesterday and it went... Badly. Found out that a shallow catch pan is no match for 6 quarts of warm 0w20 leaving the sump in a hurry! I couldn't get out from under the truck fast enough! On the plus side, Mobile 1 is a GREAT hair conditioner!

I drilled new mounting holes in the Rago's to get them to fit the lower bed rails

A pic to help, you can see the origional mounting holes for the Rago above the ones I drilled. Speaking of drilling, the Rago steel is good quality, thick and not easy to drill. I recommend a drill press and a good quality step drill bit or use a series of progressively larger bits and even use some cutting oil like I did.

I did not use wood mounts for the fire extinguisher or the 3 gallon RotopaX gas mount because I wanted to be absolutely sure there would be no failures of the mounts. I don't expect my wood ones to fail, but if one like the axe or recovery boards did fall down that would not be a big deal. A falling 3 gallon gas container or a fire extinguisher might be a different story.

I appreciate the writeup. The idea is still in the planning phases as I'm trying to research and find a suitable fire extinguishers that is safe to carry around in this Arizona heat.

Here’s my “gardening section.” IMG_2594.jpgThe rake is for campsites, plus they are good for raccoons. the loppers are nice to have. Bolt cutters are for locked gates…. In the event I really need to go that way instead IMG_2595.jpg

Since no one else chimed in, I cannot speak directly to the OEM cover, but some versions only flip twice, and then you have to remove it. Lomax covers come in a three fold, with arms to strap the last to the cab roof, so you can drive with it open, or the other version only flips twice, and to get the rest of the space you remove it. the Lomax difference is described that the two fold one is very easy to remove and reinstall, but the tri fold model is much more difficult to remove, but rarely do you need to remove it. With it folded up, it still takes up 6 or 8 inches of the open bed. Hope this helps with understanding you own.

You don't. Toyota top LOOKS like a 3 Flipper but it's really a 2 flipper.

Ditto, you just described my first oil change on my taco. In the past I’ve always used a stainless steel pan like you would see on a buffet line, always worked well. But not so well on this truck, I too was given a bath in 0-20. Now I use a bucket and it works well.
