Aye, I was super close to Poway before I moved up to Oceanside, I resided in Sabre Springs actually. Practically neighbors.

We did Nate Harrison Grade Road/Trail when we were in O'side. It goes to the top of Palomar, pretty cool from what I remember.

I went to the dam off Black Mtn road some time last year. The trail was so smooth you could drive a lowrider on it. Haven't been to the overlook or summit in a while. The trails thataway may be more technical.

Another soomth’ish trail to take is Boulder Creek Rd, north of Descanso. I only mention it because you can take it to Julian and back for a day drive. Julian comes closest to a four-season town in the county and may remind @Levalexi of Maine. It is a good place to eat and have a beer or two from one of the two breweries. On a drive up there earlier this year I noticed the county is working on a new trailhead south of the Three Sisters Falls trailhead.

On the backside of Palomar Mountain is Palomar Divide / High Point fire road trails. Those take you to the second active fire tower lookout in the county but the employee will not invite you up, at least not the two times I’ve been up there. It will be a long day cause you access the fire roads off the 79, via Temecula or Warner Springs. And the drive on the looping fire roads to the top is a long’ish bumpy drive.

Still a pretty cool scenic route. Been a while since I've been up there, last time I was on Palomar was on my Yamaha MT-10, up the frontside and down the backside and then reverse course but on the hwy obviously since its a 1000cc street bike.

The weather is pretty perfect right now so it's a good time to go out and enjoy it.

The backside is unpaved. I think you mean you took the E Grade Rd, it loops to the east and comes out near Lake Henshaw. The trail to the backside (Palomar Divide trail) is fenced/gated and blocked by the observatory.

If anyone’s headed to LA area this weekend or next, there’s a member I’m buying a stereo and a Tacoma grill from in SD and I live in Downey and can meet any time Saturday / Sunday after 3:30. Can’t hurt to ask, I randomly delivered parts from LA to Tahoe once making a spontaneous road trip out of it. Beverages or burgers of your choice as payment or good ole dinero for gas. Thanks dudes.

I'd usually be down for a Sunday run as long as I have a few days notice so I don't plan something. Just hit me up on here, as I do peruse the site daily.
