I suppose it's not ill intent on their part, their camouflage is so good they tend to just stay put.
Not very nice snakes to have around... at all.
Black snakes will solve the problem alright, if one doesn't persecute them.

Story Time with Gritto

My paternal grandmother (an old farm wife) moved into an old house nearby when my Dad took over the farm.
As a little kid, I was kind of afraid to go into her cellar.
Like as not, you'd see a Black Snake somewhere down there.
Grandma called them her "House Snakes".
Vermin were not a problem

OTOH, I had a neighbor once whose wife hated all snakes.
We were talking about it one time, and how she nagged him relentlessly to seek them out and kill them.
I pointed out that Garter snakes and Racers were harmless...
Anyway, soon enough she was complaining about field mice getting in the house


Alternatively, you could always get a cat or three, that works too

Yessir, they fly in swarms looking for new territory. They lose their wings and will die if they don’t find suitable locations that night. Termites actually puke when they hit air otherwise and is one way you can see their trails when they manage to hit surface areas.
