I was originally going to buy a hard topper, but quickly priced myself out of a new one when all the options added up. A buddy got a softopper on his Tacoma and I liked the look, and I wanted something to keep the snow out of the bed in the winter. Haven't taken it off in 2.5 years.

Its stripped. I already ordered new screws, didn’t realize you made larger ones. I’ll probably just JB Weld it and see how that goes, or figure out a way to get a wider screw in there. Don’t feel like paying that shipping again. Appreciate the response though.

    Riv nuts, Pem nuts.
I have the Riv-nut set up from my aviation days, so that's what I used.

A quick google shows this option should be available at any NAPA

I likely posted this pic previously, but another winter has passed without the window cracking. It is getting a bit scuffed up from dust and winter grime.

The rack is just right for a ladder or a few boards etc. I don't think an emergency stop with a big load up there would be a good thing ;-)

No issues with the back flap and tailgate operation. There are magnets slipped into the hem to keep the flap from flapping ;-)

I put the ST on the first summer (2021) and it only comes off when I need "head room" like when carrying motorcycles. It's carried big snow loads , but I always cleared it off prior to driving anywhere.

Wife and I use it for camping. Works Great. It's very light weight, weather resistant for all my needs.
Is holding up very well. I do refresh the seam seal every summer. Otherwise drips form at the tie up straps and buckles.

Good bang for the $$$ and Yes, I would recommend it to a friend!20240619_160006.jpg

Sorry was alone lil too long. Page 404-405 “MoonShade” been loving it. The Big pole did actually bend lil, had Breeze/Rain wall up & that’s what caused problems. Had to actually cut a strap. Was Nautical..

I'm going to probably buy a used Softopper on Thursday. Any critical, easy to miss little pieces I should be checking for before I buy? I don't expect the guy to hang around and help me install it..

I'm going tan on black, can't wait to try it on

I mean, anything other than the obvious clamps, rails, tubes and cover

I'm familiar with the utility rails on the truck and how the clamps go on.

The whole thing kinda looks like a big folding chair with canvas over it. Looks pretty simple

Stupid, stupid question, but..anyone ever look in to adapting a full size model to their Tacoma (etc)? Really love the idea of these from a weight and versatility standpoint..but they always look a size too small. Looks aside, more room inside would be probably be really useful for camping setups.

Smaller keeps it behind the cab and out of the wind. They can reasonably guarantee it won't flap itself apart

Too big might end up looking like the Oregon Trail, and catch a lot more wind

I’d be concerned with the clamps fitting onto the rails. With a wider Softopper I don’t think they will reach unless you start modifying or fabricating your bed, rail, and/or clamps. After that would be wind concerns. Granted these do well at highway speeds, but that is based on them being tucked in behind the cab too.
