Been trying to this passenger side squeak… I have eliminated the core support mount bushings as I just replaced them. Also ball joints don’t have any play in them and are greased regularly. Narrowed down to the lower shock heim supposedly they go out on kings quite frequently or lower control arm bushings. Maybe the upper control arm heims from accutune but the arms are fairly newer. Gonna be replacing the boots on those ball joints as they have ripped and wanna fix this noise while I’m down there doing that. Curious if anyone has any input before I buy some more parts that won’t fix the noise thanks.

I would get somebody to bounce it while I got under there and listened…shouldn’t be hard at all to pin point that.

Let me know what you find, I have a similar creaking sound when I'm backing out of a parking spot or into the garage. I can replicate by rocking the truck as well. I'll have to recruit my wife or kids to rock it while I crawl around and chase the sound.

I had similar noise. Dealer replaced front shocks under warranty after numerous complaints and visits. 6 months later it started again but not as loud and on the pass side this time. I just dealt with it and it has since stopped on its own.

I have 5100's in the front so it seems to be a problem with another component

Are there any poly bushings on it?

Yours definitely sounds more like a squeak, I was chasing a pretty loud creaking sound when I pull in/out of my driveway.
Rocking the truck didn’t duplicate it.
I grabbed a can of tri-flow (any lube would work) and started hitting any joints one at a time.

I suspected the LCA or sway bar bushings and the dealer wanted 2700 because they replace the whole LCA (I don’t have a press).

@AZPhys13 when I dropped my RCI front skid plate the sound was gone. Somehow it must have sprung and was causing the sound.

I'll have to check the skid as well. I have the TRD knock off and wouldn't be surprised if it was creaking.

@blacktaco77 did you find it yet? I will say that when I go hunting for squeaks I almost always find them at the UCA, followed by swaybar bushings, and then skid plates. Clunking/shifting are where I start looking at lower shock mounts, end links, etc.

    @AZPhys13 - GO CATS! :cheers:

Sorry for the late update. I am 95% sure the noise is the king shocks I unbolted and silicones the bearing and noise went away temporarily. Ordered some new bearings from 303 shock services, hopefully can get them on this weekend. For those with kings also they recommend using hardware that isn’t tapered for the lower shock mount, maybe this applies to other tacoma shocks not sure but the bolt doesn’t fully contact part of the heim and leads to premature wear.

Yea that sounds like a lower shock mount issue; I had something very similar a while back. The lower bearings in kings don’t last super long from what I’ve experienced, especially with the stock bolts being tapered as you noted.

I ordered new bolts/bearings from 303 as well and that eliminated my issue. Inspected my bearings recently during a rebuild and noticed one was beginning to fail (just under 2yrs). Recommend inspecting/replacing the lower shock hardware for kings on a more frequent interval.

My Son's truck made the noise very similar to the video. We rocked and bounced on the bumper but never found. Then the next day we were starting to grease the suspension, and he folded the tonneau cover up, stood in the bed and no noise. He folded the cover back up and the squeak returned. We opened the cover again and bounced and the squeak returned. After checking we found the bolt on the OEM cover was loose, so we tightened and never heard it again. Long story short check your tonneau cover if you have one.

Sounds like you may have solved this already, but for reference for others with a similar issue:
I had a squeak on my tacoma very close to this, turned out to be some sand/dirt that had worked its way to the bottom of the driver side spring. I cleaned the area gently with pressured water and then used a little wd-40 on the bottom plate the spring sits on - no squeaking since then. Try getting a spray bottle and squirt some water in that area, then bounce on the truck and see if it goes away. If it does, then get in there and clean it out really well.

Sounds like the spherical bearing. Take some WD40 and spray it liberally on the bearing where the shock mounts to the lower control arm. If it goes away, you know what to replace. If that isn't it, it could be the lower body mount located directly inside the wheel well. You would have to remove the liner to see it.

Had my front shocks replaced under warranty because of squeaking. Started again 3 months later. Decided to just live with it. A few months later it stopped altogether. Been quiet now for almost 2 years. Maybe the fluid film application lubricated something. Who knows
