P1135 Code

I have P1135 code on my 02. The OBD reader reads as follows:

• Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit Intermittent
• Air - Fuel Sensor Heater Circuit Response Malfunction

I've done some research and this code could be a number of things, but I started with the easy 02 Sensor. It seems the one in question for this code has been recently replaced. I unplugged, inspected and plugged it back in. Didn't remove CEL.

Any ideas what else this code could be? This is the only code that pops up. The muffler does need replacing as it has a small hole. Would this have anything to do with the code?

 

You changed the oxygen sensor or the air fuel ratio sensor? If it was the AF sensor, what brand did you buy? Toyota are picky, only like Denso and NTK/NGK sensors

 

Also, check all your engine ground connections.

 

Sorry, should have clarified. I didn't change it yet as it looks brand new, like not a spec of dust/dirt on it. This truck is new to me, and previous owner mentioned changing it recently. I verified it was a Denso sensor as well.

 

Hopefully it wasn’t purchased through fleabay or the book store, known for counterfeits parts.

I would check all the grounding points in the engine bay from the battery, block to manifold, including the one bolted to the firewall. I believe the intake manifold ground (driver side) is use for the ecm but it wouldn’t hurt to verify all connections are tight and not loose.

 

Some codes are not self clearing, as to the O2 sensor heater code, is this one of them, not 100% sure. From reading others stories regarding this particular issue if the O2 sensor is ok and the wiring to the PCM is ok, it is and internal issue in the PCM. Search this forum, maybe someone else has a differernt conclusion.

Must be an 03 or an 04 Tacoma, anyway, the pedal position sensor circuit A being intermittant needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Inside the throttle pedal there is a carbon track wiper with 2 wiper arms, Circuit A and Circuit B, duh, this is a built in redundancy and this is what tells the PCM throttle demand. This signal is sent to the throttle body to open or close it. One circuit in pedal position sensor (PPS) starts at a 5v reference and goes to 0 volts as you press the pedal, the other circuit starts at 0 v and goes to 5 volts. The PCM is expecting one voltage to go up and the other to go down equally, when one circuit is off the PCM flags it. Eventually when both circuits fail you will have limited throttle, limp home mode.
