We had this with my wife's RAV4 a couple of weeks ago. We got it early and so the repair was only about $500.00. The service writer suggested that we drive it every day so they didn't get comfortable.

I also put one of these under the hood of her RAV4 and my Taco.

Plus, I sprayed this stuff on the wires.

Both have peppermint and Grandpa Gus has Cinnamon.

I plan to respray every month.

I had chipmunks or squirrels chew up the rear woring harness on my 2025 tacoma. Truck is still in the shop for repairs. It has now been in the shop for 37 days and Toyota can't tell me the ETA of the new harness and sensors. Very frustrating.
Is there any legal option to get help with the cost from Toyota? I am understanding that there was a class action suit in Oregon a few years ago due to the soy based insulation on the wiring. If I had known about the soy issue I would definitely not purchased the truck.

Had a rodent problem, they chewed a hole in a heater return hose. I installed those on my Taco a few months ago. So far not a single sign of rodent infestation or damage.

    Fog everything with bear spray.

Sticky sheets all over with nuts smeared with peanut butter in the middle. Make a couple buckets into kill pits filled with water and baited with peanut butter on the platform. They really are deadly. I put a quart of used antifreeze in with the water.

If it works for you go for it. But I think most of us don’t want to mess around with bear spray, sticky sheets, peanut butter and death buckets and the mess of it all. And remember if you have pets antifreeze is a killer. They are attracted to it and even a tiny amount will destroy their liver and kill them quickly.

I used a version of these as well.
Neighbor chose to go with a spray, which didn't appeal to me. Smelled like some awful mint.
I also put a baking tray filled with mothballs on the ground underneath the front skid for a week or so. Apparently they can't stand that smell.

Ahh man, we had two squirrels that lived in our oaks, super friendly, never messed with vehicles. They even sat on tires and ate acorns, but not once did they crawl inside, they had a perfectly fine house in a bush line out front. I got one in a rat trap and found it flopping around the yard trying to get free. It barely fit its head in but the peanut butter must've been too tempting. Got it free but it was....well, not okay, ran off all stunned and zig-zagging. Felt bad. They did not come back around lol.

I use bobcat urine. My truck is outside. I’m not sure I would use it inside. I get it from Lenon Lures or from Amazon. I put it in a small mist sprayer and spray it on the inner fenders and under the hood. Be careful not to spray metal. I respray every week or so , or after rain. I have had several episodes with rodent damage and the bobcat urine seems to have stopped it. I do smell it every once in a while, but I am reassured when I do.

Someone casually told me to buy wolf urine, like it was readily available down the street at 7-11

Lenonlures.com has it and it is less expensive then you might think.

I thought it would be expensive because it can’t be easy to get a bobcat to pee in a bottle.

^^^^This for mice. The bucket with water and antifreeze with peanut butter on a tiny platform. You do not need the antifreeze if you will be around to remove the mice. I have a travel trailer that is out in the country and use the antifreeze with that bucket, the antifreeze keeps the smell down next to nothing.
