Just be careful. There will come a time when you're going to unlock your truck from the passenger side and put the key in the ignition to do whatever (take out a CD, roll up the passenger window, etc) and when you go to leave your lights will remain on because the driver door never opened! I should know. I've done it a few times. Its hard to remember when you do this in the day time.

back from the dead - lol

i almost got burned today (at the clemson - Louisville game) from this one in my '14. Luckily the lights were only left on for a couple of hours and she started right up.

toyota should have programmed the logic so that opening or closing any door with the ignition off or without the key should kill the lights... or how about just a simple auto off like my '90's $100 Fluke meter?

i can't believe this is still an issue on my '14..

I don't really understand what you guys are saying. Please explain how the lights will stay on in some circumstances.

They are saying they go in the truck on the passengers side and turn the key switch on
For music. The auto switch makes the lighs come own.
Then they switch it off and close the passengers door.
The lights stay on because the drivers door was never opened and closed.

Thank you, I was a bit confused. I should be fine, I always just turn my lights off.

    Clemson by 6.
down to the wire - Clemson's D stopped Louisville (4 plays) inside the red zone with less than 2 min. left in the game for the win.

after i found out about this (still tailgating) we tested my buddy's older '11 tundra. The lights came on just like my tacoma but auto off after about ~1min.

apparently the tundra's have auto off on their non-limited packages.

Be careful if you use an automatic starter. If you start your truck and left your lights on, they won't auto shut off if you have a timer.

I have a viper starter and have noticed the lights on and truck off if I don't make it out while the timer is still running.
