Tweeter buzz

Hello, I just recently found out my stock sub in my 05 Tacoma was blown. I’ve been looking around and researching and found that the Rockford fosgate p3ds2 would be a great replacement. I’m in Highschool so still saving up for it through my job. I got curious today and took apart the storage panels behind the seat where the stock sub is and took it out and man it was blown. After unplugging, I hear a buzz coming from both tweeters, now I thought it was because the power is now being sent to tweeters w/o sub, but I plugged sub back in and the buzz was still there. I don’t hear it when engine is running of course but still annoying. Any thoughts? Thanks

 

Buzzing…as in “crackling”? Or is it more of a “whine” when you rev the engine?

Interesting. What all has been changed in the system? Headunit, speakers, sub, amp? Just trying to get a handle on it. It kind of sounds like a grounding issue, but where is the question.

 

Well I thought the question was kinda obvious sorry. I guess it’s what the buzzing sound is and what is causing it? Headunit has been upgraded by a well known company on tacomawlrd. That’s the only thing. I’ve never had the buzz until after I unplugged my blown sub and plugged it back in. So that’s why I’m a little confused

 

Okay, so TT (I assume you mean) provided the wiring for upgrading the radio. Is it using the stock JBL amp? If so, that’s probably the issue right there. That amp is 20-years old. It’s also getting a (most likely) high level signal that is too much for it to handle. You may be right in that the buzzing wasn’t in the tweeters beforehand. The sub may have been enough of a load to prevent that, removing the sub was like having a break in a dam, electrical-wise. If it is that, there’s no easy way to fix it. The easiest way, depending on your comfort with running wire, is to run your own from the radio through to the speakers in the doors.

 

I got the wiring for the headunit from joying which made the unit. Nothing was tapped into, it was all pretty much plug and play. Yeah that does sound right, thank you. I honestly can’t hear the noise when music is playing or the engine is on. I really only hear it when it ACC so it’s whatever

 

it is using the stock jbl amp and sub everything is stock on the inside but the head unit.

 

I’m also planning on buying a Rockford fosgate p3ds2 soon to replace the blown sub. I still have the sub plugged in and it works ok, just some parts sound so awful. The new sub is dual 2 ohm
