Toyota doesnt recommend 0w-20..... EPA does for fuel mileage standards.

There's no benefit at all going from 0W20 to 5W20 aside from being cheaper. If you want greater viscosity for hooning in hot climate, go with 0W30 like I do.

Normal Climate 0w20. Hot climate or hard working truck 0w30. Mobile 1 in both cases (Advanced Fuel Saving version of the 0w30 Mobile 1 because of ILSAC). Make sure it ticks the ILSAC GF-6A and then everybody is happy including the Toyota warranty man.

Toyota recommends - but does not make you use 0w20 on pain of death.

See that is the kind of data that is helpful. I have used blackstone with my Liberty CRD to be sure the 5w40 Rotella T6 was doing good for that little diesel. I sampled annually and always had good results too with a 6,000 mile OCI on that. with the Tacoma I have send two samples in. One at 4500 miles and one at 35,000 after 5,000 miles of driving. both showed nothing bad and low wear elements. I'm using super tech oil now and they say its preforming well.

I'd be curious how 5w30 synthetic would do in out trucks but 0w20 so far is doing fine I'll like not take that adventure.

I have had my Toyota dealership do all my oil changes at 5k miles or 8k km :anonymous: Since new.

They use bulk oil. So, I’m not 100% sure that their bulk oil meets the latest specs. I would have to assume it does but who would be able to verify?

You could send a sample to Blackstone and see what they say.

Some engineers try to figure out the best way to design a part so it doesn't fail

Some engineers figure out the cheapest way to manufacture a part while avoiding class action lawsuits and recalls

Unfortunately engineers don't run the show at these companies, its mostly lawyers and bean counters

"If we design this coolant pipe this way it will cost 1 dollar per unit and last forever"

"Yes but if we design it like this it'll only cost 20 cents and it'll last 4-6 years"

"If we design it like this it'll cost 5 cents per unit and likely fail within 2 years. Possibly exposing us to getting sued and having to replace a bunch for free"

"How much will it cost if we design it correctly and make sure it lasts?"

"How much will it cost if we design it cheap and risk a bunch of warranty repairs?"

"Let's ask the shareholders what they think.."

As Far as my oil choice Super Tech from Wal-Mart. This video really solidified my belief that it was a good oil and that other similar lower cost store brand oils like NAPA also were just as good for a regular street vehicle as long as they meet the required specifications. In his Tests all 4 oils did very well but the NAPA oil which due to a sale at the time of purchase was the cheapest actually preformed best. So you don't have to pay for expensive oil brands. I'd rather buy the Walmart or NAPA oils and be able afford to change it more often. $10 plus per Quart oil is just crazy knowing this.

Where is the diagnose and root cause analysis?

What kind of data do you have that shows you are having problems caused by 0W-20 oil? What does the higher viscosity oil do to solve that problem?

TW keeps things interesting with these oil threads.

Been puttin' this in my truck since I started doing my own oil changes...after that first free oil change visit in 2021.

Someone posted an oil spec for Mexico use Tacos that recommended 5W-20.

I can't fault you for picking that oil either. I know that one young woman that has been a long time Tacoma You tuber talks it up a lot. I have looked at it and it meets the required specs same as the Super Tech. I like that it comes in a 6 Quart box that's the pretty much the exact refill amount. I would use it but Wall-Mart stores in my area never stock it. So I just get 5Quart jugs of super tech.
