Hello everyone. I'm new here to Tacoma World and dont fully know how everything works around here. Just have a quick question to ask.

I just ordered a Prinsu Cab Rack for my 23 Tacoma and was wondering what type of gasket or caulking you used around the bolts and spacers? I'm finding so many mixed feeling about RTV and marine caulk. Just want to know what the best way of going about this is. Some have said rtv will eat away at the paint over time. I just want something paint safe that's water tight.

    Thank you

I used exterior grade white silicone. I keep my truck parked outside and the rack has been on it since new in 2017, through desert heat and mtn snows with numerous atmospheric rivers and EL Nino rains with no leaks.

Black or clear may be better for cleanup if it squirts out of the plastic strip molding holes. I remember thinking that when I installed mine and a bit of it squirted out.

Sashco makes 2 sealants in particular. Lexel and Through the Roof.

I have experience with Lexel. It's pretty amazing stuff. Extremely flexible and can be applied to wet surfaces. I used this to seal my third brake light before I had Toyota complete the recall for the gasket. Lasted a good few months with no issues. I haven't used Through the Roof which is their roofing caulk but the website says it has UV resistance to that could also be a good option.

Put mine on back in 17 as well. I used clear 100% waterproof silicon caulk. No issues yet!

You don’t have to worry about UV resistant stuff either, as the sealant is underneath the black molding strip and the prinsu rack feet. I would be sure that it’s mold resistant and for outdoors though.
