He explained this to me. The panel had a bit of orange peel. In working out the dent and pushing it out you will sometimes raise the panel in small areas and change it a little and actually make it look like the orange peel in the paint flattened out. The idea is to take the time in the process of hammering with his tools on the outside to blend it in and visually create what looks like orange peel back into the panel blending in the area of damage.

Two tiny door dings, like maybe half a dime in diameter, he worked on for a good hour and a half getting it perfect and he absolutely did that. Guy took a lot of pride in his work.

Had pdr done on my truck recently. Dents on rear fenders and a number of dings on doors and bedside. Dents were like the damage on the OP's truck. PDR tech fixed them all. You cannot tell they were even there.

Buy a new bed panel, ~$850 with tax direct from Toyota. Take it to a Toyota body shop and have them paint it ~$500.

Buy a 6 pack, install bed panel. You'll spend about the same amount of money as any other type of repair and it will be a higher quality repair.

Orange peel is a result of the paint being laid on the panel "the texture", not the natural deformities in the metal...
    Youre not changing the paint...
