Heyo to those in this thread. I built my first PC in 2019 which has since died for unknown reasons. Planned to just rebuild it once I figured out what was wrong with it, but after months of trying to diagnose it, think I'm just gonna scrap it. I've had a brand new 3080 Ti sitting for a new system since 2023. But with GPU prices being what they are, I'm debating on selling it and trying to pick up a Radeon 7900 XTX, since the value and performance seems to be better than the 3080 Ti.

It's crazy, since back when I was building Intel was still cpu king and AMD couldn't touch Nvidia or Intel. But now oh how the turn tables...

There's not much reason to buy a 7900 over a 9070. FS4 is a huge improvement. That 3080ti would also not be terrible for 1440p. Otherwise yea I switched back to AMD for the first time in 20 years no regrets.

Re-upped my gamepass and jumped into some Oblivion. It's just as clunky as I remember, looks a heck of a lot better though. Not sure how much time I will dump into this but I will be bringing some havok to Tamriel. :stirthepot: Haven't really read into it much but seems the hardware RT isn't really worth it? It's still very playable with it on but I can't really see much difference visually?

My 3080 has been struggling to keep over 100fps so I refuse to turn RT on, it looks good enough for me. It sure is janky haha. I'm nearly done my run, I've started to lose interest in it but glad I didnt pay full price for it.

I find I prefer frames to shiny now. I'd really like a new video card but its not in the books for a bit.

Yeah, I can't see much difference. I wonder if, because this is some strange concoction of Unreal 5 and the Creation Engine, if it's even working properly?

You made me go look at some graphs to look at the 9070 xt, seems it’s not really far behind the xtx except for having less vram, and as long as the price stabilizes a little more it’s probably the way to go. And yeah, the 3080 Ti would still work well for me at 1440p. I’m just weighing the value proposition for it since it’s still going for a good price on eBay, to the point I could almost trade up two generations for not very much cost and have a less power-hungry card at better performance. lol, decisions decisions.

I still need to source the rest of my parts, turbulent times. Think I’m gonna go with the 7800x3d, unless the 9800x3d prices come down.

I wouldn't blow the bank for a top end CPU unless you have other needs for one than gaming. At 1440p+ even like a 7600X wouldn't cause any significant issue with bottlenecking. If you can snag a 9700X on sale for sub $300 that would build up into a sweet budget rig.

I have a 9070XT. No regrets so far.

I'd echo Phos. While a 9800X3D will show well at 1080P ultra in graphs, a 9700X would work great if driving a 1440P display up to 144 Hz.

9070 and 9070XT coming early June.

Microcenter had almost no 5060 launch stock and Newegg is still selling cards well after launch. Did people finally say no? Will nVidia and AMD be able to sell their 8 GB models to anyone other than OEM's?

Also, supposedly, nVidia is readying their Super cards over internal concerns around AMD sales figures.

Newegg was withholding gpu's. Seems like they always had a bundle sale going. They even had a few email blasts with an option to select which 50 series you wanted to buy. Unless you picked a 5090 you never stood a chance. o_O

Funny every time I visit Costco their pre built choices all have 4060's. I'll bet the unsold 4080 super builds were stripped for the cards and trashed.

Zero doubt in my mind this is the case after the release fiasco earlier this year. The garbage they were pairing cards with was downright shameful. Newegg has been on the down for years though so it was all tbe...:der:

Made the mistake of thinking I could just run one of those at a low rpm and it would be as quiet as the standard noctuas in my front panel, but it always had more of a pwm buzz. Ended up swapping it out. Could have just been my unit, not sure.

Definitely good for server noises when you crank em though, lol

Hopefully I can adjust the fan curves so it's only really loud when the CPU has been running hot for a bit. The PC is in a basement room next to a finished room. As long as it doesn't sound like the PC is ready for take off from the room next door, the noise shouldn't be an issue.

Dunno if you guys are on social media but, #battlefront3 is exploding right now. With Episode 3 back to theatres, May 4th, and Andor season 2 being absolutely amazing, SWBF2 is flying. Mind you this is just steam (which became available in 2021-4 years post launch).

Someone online who claims to have a contact at Dice reported a peak of over 100,000 players across all platforms. Given how huge this game was on console I believe that. It was also given out as a free game on the epic games store at one point for PC. And at first ALL PC players used the EA app, which many obviously still do. It's so fun being able to get back into lobbies with a 5 second wait time, and any game mode you want. Big content creators online are making videos on it too. Pretty awesome. Corny but awesome. People commenting stuff like "FOR THE REPUBLIC" and "Rebellions are built on hope" lol. At least its to the point that people who actually work at EA DICE Disney/Lucasfilm etc are seeing it. Even one of the Andor season 2 actors posted on his own instagram about it lol. Still sad my PC slightly struggles at 3440x1440p but no point building a new one now.
