What part of the seat is squeaking? might have just wallowed out the rail mounts that go into the seat? maybe you can JBweld the posts to stop it from moving around as a temp fix but I'm sure in time that will crack again after use. Try hitting up company and seeing if they have any suggestions. They might even send you a freshie or a code for a discount?

I don't know if it's the seat rails on the dropper, or the seat rails as they go into the seat. Bike/seat has less than 400 miles. Been making noise since new but has recently started getting way worse.

Seats get worked you just gotta replace em at some point. I just retired an SQlabs because it was getting super annoying. It was creaking where the rails connect into the saddle base. It obviously had a ton of slop. I replaced it with the new Ergon SMS which I am liking way better overall. (Smaller, more comfortable) Otherwise I only lube the metal to metal contact points on the post but never put anything on the rails.

Yeti is sending out a replacement, bike doesn't have enough mileage to need a seat. It's been creaking since 100 miles in.

But now I'm going down the rabbit hole of finding the perfect saddle for my size :D

But with that said, it's sad when your $10k bike is silent other than the nice hum of the hubs yet you have a creaky ass seat. Did 15 miles yesterday and wanted to throw the bike in the trash.

That's the way she goes sometimes. At least they are making it right.

*Dora's voice* Can you spot the 5 breaks in this chain?
    20250519_134933.jpg

Honestly, I'm stumped. I've never had a chain fail like this. It wasn't having any shifting problems, until this happened today. This is on my hybrid bike, the sirrus. I spend alot of time off the saddle, cranking in high gear... but NOT shifting under load.
Any guesses as to what caused this? Otherwise, I'll swap in another KMC X9, and hope for the best.

On my bikes, it's always the saddle rails where they are pressed into the saddle. I have to drop some triflow into the rails where it goes into the saddle, flex it a few times to work it in. That usually works for a few rides. But then again, I have old saddles (Selle Italia SLRs).

I feel like the fact that they're all broken on the same side is a big fat clue - like it's getting loaded asymmetrically and the stress is biased greatly toward that side..or maybe even a manufacturing defect.

I had this issue with my last two Shimano M8100 chains. LBS went through everything and couldn’t find any issues with the drivetrain/cassette. Never had any shifting issues either, until they snapped. My last chain had 13 cracked links. My current Shimano M8100 chain, no issues since replacing it last fall and riding all winter here in AZ. I chocked it up to shitty chains/manufacturing defects.

I could definitely see the pins getting over-peened, or links slightly over thickness, causing this.

Thanks for sharing. I'm hoping this to be a similar experience. I looked over everything suggested, cassette looks fine, nothing seems bent causing excessive side load. Soooo.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll try another KMC x9, since that's what the bike came with. Thanks fellas.

Jenson tosses in an extra DT Swiss 350 rear hub for when the stock Shimano explodes on the Orbea Rise. Mine hasn't exploded yet.

How many gears on the sprocket? These 1x cranks with huge cassettes can put enormous side loads on the chain in the highest and lowest gears. Being skewed away from the center of the cassette makes it even worse for one of those gears. Shifting under load may be possible now but I doubt it’s good for any chain. In any case I’d check crank/cassette alignment to see if the crank or chainring can be shifted in or out to relieve stress.

It was only an issue with those two chains. Nothing before and nothing since. LBS went through drivetrain and everything was good. It’s a 1x12 XT. I’m rarely in either highest or lowest. I had another bike shop tell me they had gotten some counterfeit Shimano chains from their supplier as I was asking around about the problem. Not sure how true this is. Either way, it was only an issue for a bit. Both chains broke rather quickly. My current chain has been going strong since September and have been riding all winter in AZ.

I’ve read a lot about counterfeit Shimano parts in the last few years. I don’t know if this is very common with other brands but Shimano has publicized it and worked to addresss it: https://bike.shimano.com/information/anti-counterfeit.html

What goes around… . When I was young it was all “cheap Japanese imitation” selling stuff undercutting us instead. I have no doubt that trend will continue. In any case if you’re curious yourself roll the chain off the crank and put a straight edge across it front to rear and see for yourself what sprocket it lines up with. You can also easily eyeball what the chain looks like in the most extreme gears. There are certainly benefits to going to 1x cranks but I think the negative consequences are helping to fuel driveline innovation. Not that it really needs it since the cycling world has always been enthusiastic about new stuff.
