I was checking the fluid levels on my 5,000 mile maintenance check and noticed that the engine coolant reservoir was right at the Low L level. Engine was cooled down when I checked, I never saw any leaks or overheated. Was wondering if this is a big deal for 5,000 miles to top off. I don't know what the level was from the factory, maybe it was never above the Low level.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
My coolant was low from factory no doubt in my 23.

You're under warranty. Mention it and I'm sure they'll top it off at dealership.

It’s typical on all modern Toyotas. In the summer I don’t top them up to full due to temp changes. I set most to 75%

If it’s normal where do the coolants go? Evaporate due to the heat?

It's not normal. It's either low from the factory or going out the tail pipe.

I'd be interested if anyone on here who recently purchased a 2024 or 2025 (less than 1,000 miles) can tell us what level their coolant is at. Are they all coming low from factory?

Could be an air pocket in the cooling system.
Top it off and monitor the coolant level.

Mine is at the low line when hot. No biggie. Just top off with some distilled water

Regardless if they are low on coolant from the factory. The coolant reservoir should be topped off during the Pre Delivery Inspection.

6 ounces low on all the different fluids isn't enough to do damage but the cost savings with bean counters add up when you are talking about millions of vehicles. You start talking almost a quart total with each vehicle and it's real money when you hit a million plus rides.

So my hybrid truck is at 1260 miles on the odo and I’m full in the main coolant and also full in the reservoir with my trucks engine cold since 3 days ago.

I just looked at mine. I'm at 5500mi and the coolant's right at the bottom of the full mark. It's been sitting since yesterday afternoon.

I did take it in for the first ToyotaCare service about three weeks ago. They didn't tell me exactly what they did and the work order sheet said they "topped off all fluids and set tire pressure." I have no idea if it needed coolant.

That said, it's not common for sealed coolant systems like this one to need top offs. Unless there's a leak somewhere, there's not much opportunity for anything to cook off and sneak out. If the level goes down over anything but a fairly long time, you've got a problem.

I will check mine when I get a chance. It is at 607 miles.

2009, 2017 Tacomas and 2011, 2018 4Runners have all needed a top off. I'm a mechanic by nature and horribly unlucky so there's a chance that all 4 of those Toyotas had an issue...

All have needed 1 top off. Not a mileage thing, the Tacomas had ultra low miles, so must be an age thing.

I keep a gallon of the OEM Toyota antifreeze in the garage and throw it in the back on road trips.

My last few new vehicles would sit at low when cool. No big deal if the level stays the same over time

At the risk of sounding gauche, I only top it off when it's low - regardless of the mileage or service interval.
Other than that it get flushed and replaced at regularly scheduled maintenance intervals unless it starts looking bad.

    Am I missing something?
