Which is hilarious because the 6G 4Runner hybrid is the exact same drivetrain as the Tacoma and the LC250.

Try driving a Subaru with a massive lag between R and D… even warmed up. I’ll never own one just for that one flaw.

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? My 2016 came one quart low from the factory.

    1. And still has 100 miles more range than my 2G Tacoma.

    2. See above.

    3. 5 foot bed or 6 foot bed? Want interior storage buy a 4Runner or put a shell on it.

The Highlander hybrid configuration is significantly different than the Tacoma. The Tacoma hybrid is the same as the Tundra. I haven't heard of any Tundra (or Tacoma) regen brake related problems.

No I can still complain about price but that's the market. What if the improvements aren't enough to address previous concerns?
I know. Those are just some of the complaints I hear.

I traded a ‘24 4Runner for the Tacoma hybrid. The platform improvements are astounding. Braking, power, handling, highway passing, mpg, just about everything you can list. There’s still decent cargo space for everyday use in a Gen6 4R hybrid; what’s potentially annoying is lift-over and reach. Batteries have a Toyota warranty to 10yr/150k miles btw.

In the shrinking universe of NA V6’s, I have no doubt that the 4.0 is/was the most reliable. In the growing population of hybrid powertrains, I’m equally confident that Toyota is still two generations ahead of any other auto co’s competing hybrid technology, and these in particular will prove to be very reliable.

What’s in your driveway? Sounds like you know nothing about the new Tacoma or 4Runner.

2024 off road premium hybrid with 6200k miles and it’s been solid for me. I always rip it in sport mode. I wish it would just stay in that mode every time I start it up but no biggie. Toyota has been making solid 4 cylinder motors forever and have been in the hybrid game for a long time now so buying one for me was an easy decision. Zero regrets. Plus as long as the trailhunter and pro models stay at their price point, these hybrids will demand top resale values

why so hostile? I’m a life long Toyota tech

learn to ignore peoples opinions if you need to judge them like this

We know the the lc250 and 4Runner are sisters. We don’t like the 4runner, it feels cheap, small and has poor value, I’ll say it again.

I’m done responding to this, clearly fan boy mentality here.

The LC and 4R have similar suspension but the interior of the 4R is the same as the Tacoma - except the 4R is made in Japan and everything I have read says the build and material quality of the 4R is better than the Tacoma. I haven't been in a new 4R but the LC definitely has better build and material quality compared to the Tacoma. Having said that, I feel that the material and build quality of my Pro and the THs I checked is better than the ORs and Sports I also looked at (though not as nice as LCs). I also have a 5g 4R and while the build material/quality is slightly better than my Mexican Taco, it feels dated which lowers the "perceived" quality. I'm sure if I compared it to a Japanese 6g 4R, the 5g would feel even worse. As far as the size, I think we're talking fractions of inches.

Your feeling/perceptions our yours but they are counter to the majority.

You're missing the point. The newer vehicles may in fact do those things better.. but influencers aren't going to make those videos because they don't get clicks. Whether or not the vehicle is actually better or worse is beside the point. They need views, and you get more views by creating "controversy" out of thin air.
Remember the broken cv axle that was going to kill Toyota's reputation?

Nobody is actually researching anything, nobody is reading anything

We're all just watching videos of guys standing in front of trucks wearing flannel with a concerned look on their face

Yes and I'm not impressed, some automated call system all though annoying to use work pretty well. Those AI image generator things remind me of Garbage Pal kid cards.

I'm saying in 2025 new vehicle designs should have no compromises. I know that will never be the case for a number of reasons.

When someone brings up mpgs or tank size or any other measurable comparison, that isn't finding fault or anything negative those are stats. Most of the time those different stats don't translate into any real world noticeable differences.

I do agree with your comments on the motivations of any influencer or automotive reviewer.
