I've been to multiple plant ID sites and nothing quite fits. This sprung up in wife's flower garden and we like it, but is it a tree? A bush? The most likely candidate is a Goldenrain Tree but it doesn't quite match. Note the redness in the newly sprouting leaves which is different from other saplings/babies I've seen.

It is definitely deciduous, lost all it's leaves last winter and they came back this spring. This makes me think it's a tree, which makes a huge difference where we put it in the ground, but it needs transplanting pronto.

Thanks for looking, next is to cart it off to the local nursery to see if they can give us any info.

If it is Sumac, it will turn into a tree eventually. Very invasive, not desirable plant.
    Certain species are poisonous, no-go.

Thanks, this was another possible match, AKA the Rowan. None of the saplings I see have the redness in the new leaves though, which may or may not mean anything.

Although some species of Sumac have a redness in their leaves the ones I'm seeing are smoother and a slightly waxy look to them. Not ruling it out, just don't know.(below is a European Ash sapling)

From what you said about it losing leaves and then coming back, I’d bet it’s a tree too. The red new leaves might just be how this species starts out in spring.

With 40'' ht and 20' spread I'd put it away from any structure
