This really makes me want to keep the ECU, motor, chassis harness, and engine harness from my old truck just in case :anonymous:

I agree with Eric, I like it the way it is!

Obviously none of us can leave a truck stock but still, looks like you picked a good one to start with.

I know people who are running a Hewitt-Tech solution -- for off-road use only, of course -- who are very satisfied with it. The heart of it is fully solid-state I believe, so it should perform its function for life of the truck.

For people who daily drive their 4x4s on-road, YMMV as far as bi-annual or upon-title-transfer smog certifications go. (Some report having to remove the Hewitt-Tech & reactivate the physical SAIS subsystem to pass smog, others report smog-check stations not caring, i.e. as long as the truck passes smog at the tailpipe that's all they care about.)

If you're committed to the truck long-term then Hewitt-Tech is probably the way to ago. Also since it's small, lightweight, and easy to remove, in case (god forbid) the truck is ever totalled or you just want to sell it, you can pull & remove it quickly, either to sell used on eBay or TW forums, or to put in your next 2.5gen Tacoma.

I had the Hewitt tech sais parts and pieces installed on my 2013 trd sport this spring after throwing codes and not wanting to deal with them ever again. Kit was like $450 if I remember for the 4.0L, way cheaper than repairing otherwise.

The guy I know who did this had no problems with SAIS at the time, he just wanted to peace-of-mind that he'd never have to limp home due to SAIS crap. He's well satisfied with it, been running it ~2 or 3 years, >12K miles now. No issues. Also he likes not listening to the silly post-shutoff SAIS air pump wheezing noise.

Also, this. SAIS takes up a huge amt of space and when it's gone all sorts of other things can fit there. Maybe an ARB compressor, maybe a large secondary power distribution/fuse block, etc.

Thank you! Truly, for all the insight on this. I had no idea about this kit. I am extremely interested and will most likely pull the trigger on it. I think its a really really good idea.

Do your due-diligence of course, but after you read around on TW forums about the Hewitt-Tech I think you'll see a strong majority of highly-positive reviews, short term and long term.

Because it's basically just very low-power solid state electronics, no moving parts, it will likely "just work" forever.

I will say that after several months, my truck went back into limp mode and threw the same codes, called Hewitt, they asked for serial number of my unit, I gave it to them, they identified the issue and overnighted a replacement, sent a prepaid postage to send my old one back immediately. So customer service was top tier. No issues since in over a year.
