Tacoma redline

It can be removed with a tune. My Valleyrunner tune and @3JOH22A s tune (don't know what it is off the top of my head) removed this behaviour.

 

The Tacoma does not. The event data recorder stores other parameters relevant to accident reconstruction, so it logs an entry every time brakes were hit hard, gas was stomped on, VSC/TCS activates, and takes a snapshot of individual wheel speeds, vehicle speed, steering wheel angle, gas pedal position, brake pressure and if the brake pedal is pushed, etc. You can see this data in your own truck with a bootleg copy of Techstream.



The only evidence of my truck bouncing up rocks and being hammered past the stock redline all day are on YouTube, Instagram, and the TW calendar.

 

Every 80s car I had would dramatically torque twist against it's own frame while slowly puttering around in circles. One tire might emit the briefest of chirps if it happens to find a patch of loose gravel in the parking lot. None of them were in danger of finding the redline that the ancient block once enjoyed when it was installed in a 60s model.

 

Nonsense. My 1981 Datsun pickup was rated at 90hp.

 

I vaguely remember what my Fleetwood was rated for. I know that it put out less. A lot less. Know what it feels like to own a 6L V8 and have it walked on by a stock Dodge neon that wasn't even trying to race?

I know. Still, it was fun to wind it up. That hood would wrap and twist like it was about to beat a Shelby, and the cyclist in the sidewalk would look on in curiosity as he kept pace with it.

 

My ‘79 mustang with a 4speed- 2.3l could float a valve. Couldn’t get out of its own way but a fun car to learn to drive in. As hard as I tried that motor could not be blown up! We named it “the moving friend”.

 

What I meant was you can manipulate the gas in S1 where the rpm isn’t quite at the rev limiter yet, like keeping it at like 5500 where it won’t cut power but there’s still plenty of wheel speed, like what the stunt driver was doing in the donut video

 

My folks had a 1980ish Ford LTD with the 302 ci (5L) V8. I looked it up today and found 140 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. It was very fast by my standards at the time.

 

In donuts, that works fine. But not long sweepers.

 

Come on, boys Admit that a rev limiter is a granny. Men with skillz can manipulate the throttle to avoid over revving the engine.

My semi-auto manual gets in the way. But it was a condition of getting a 4dr long bed.

Also, if you have the time to stare at the rev gauge the entire time. I question how far you're really sending it.

 

Tachometer? Realize many older cars didn’t have those either. You don’t need one. You just get a feel for what rpm torque starts to decrease. Dirt bikes don’t tend to have rev limiters and tachometers either.

 

Did you remember to have a friend hang out the passenger window? Balance is key to maintaining RPMS.
