What’s stopping me from taking a hole saw and removing/ enlarging this cupholder and adding a drop in style cupholder?

The stock cupholder has become increasingly small with the invention of double wall cups.

What tool should I use to enlarge this hole?

Nothing really stopping you. You could use a hole saw but you should cut a hole out of wood and use that as a jig to not totally wreck the plastic when the bit tries to wander, or a dremel with a cutoff wheel.

the main thing don’t get a cupholder that is too deep where it runs into the parking brake mechanism. You can unscrew the shift knob and pull up on that console piece to remove it from your truck easily and see how much room you are working with and if any plastic needs mild trimming

I had a 2nd gen for 11 years, and vaguely upset I didn’t come up with the same answer.

The rear-most cup holder is your best bet. 100% you will want to remove that trim piece from the vehicle before going to town… there’s wiring harnesses that run thru that vicinity. That said, drill a pilot from the back side and then go to town with a hole saw that matches your OD for your cup holder. Check depth clearance before you go all in, but guessing there’s plenty.

    Good luck!

I went with a non-permanent modification, a 3D printed holder that I found on etsy.

Worth $40? Maybe not. But it looks stock, works as advertised, and can be swapped back easily.

I actually have that drop in cup holder. The problem is, that forward cup holder gets filled up with stuff. The center console cupholder would be great if it fit more than a soda can.

Where did you get that CF console trim? Is that a wrap?

I don’t. The package was on my truck when I bought it new. The parts are hard to find from what I’ve read. Unless you find a wrecked truck with that package.

I’m going to do it! What cutting tool did you use with the dremel? Was it the little wheel?

It was the sanding wheel. Just go in small increments and check the fit pretty regularly.

Search for boat cup holders. There’s a ton of drop in ones
