I dont have a refrigerated air dryer and summer humidity is on its way in... Maybe 2 month ago i would have had any dross on the little holes either.

Drove 5 hours this morning to my mom’s place, battery light in the 4runner came on about an hour into my drive and scangauge showed about 11 - 11.5v while running. Would occasionally jump back up to 14v for a bit then back down again. She chugged along though all 300 miles to Monterey.

Battery is new, alternator is 30 years old so swung into Napa and got a refurb Denso. Nearly bought a Duralast from autozone but luckily found a Napa near my mom’s place. Going to install this weekend, seems like only basic tools are needed so I should be good with the small kit I keep in the truck.

Maaaan that cut out is beautiful!

Love seeing that nice square edge.

Yesterday I moved forward with laying down the first layer of Flex Seal on the second pan (first pan is all dry and ready to go), along with putting up the USB hub for easily getting my files off a thumb drive onto my mini PC

And if you're curious about the software, I touched on it a bit last night (with screenshots added).

I suspect valves, not sure why. Its historically been pretty tight - no burning oil or anything. Got the report from the repair place - cylinder psi 1-4 is 100, 105, 100, 125. Also, exhaust valves in 1 & 2 are supposedly oil soaked.

I'm going to find some time to check valve clearances and go from there I think.

thank you for the advice on the leak down testers - have you seen any info on the OTC brand ones? I know that name and I feel like they're usually good.

Any chance the brushes are just worn out? They're easy to change.

First 3/8" cut in a while, on a high strenth steel, used my old settings, and not terrible. Definitely hitting max duty on the little razorcut 45a after 30s of uptime...

Can't say anything specific about the OTC tool, but I agree, it seems to be a reputable brand.

    Unexpected junkyard score today.

My family had a 486 when I was growing up. I remember it was 33mhz but I don't remember if it was DX or SX.

Also an interesting little thing for sale in the "used cars" section outside the yard.

Good opportunity for the 105a Grand Vitara alternator upgrade if you have a need for more juice

We were wondering what it would take to replace the missing grille. Parts must be all but nonexistent.

I need to replace one in my moms Outback and its making me think I may as well do mine. I'm months away from antique plates and still on the OG alternator haha. Scanguage says it's fine, but just feels like something to knock out.
