He was way too nice. Cost the race. Not saying you know who wouldn't have won, but still.

Alonzo quote mid race was priceless. "beep beep luckiest beeeeeeeeeeeep driver in beeeeep F1" (not exact quote, but those who saw it know)

I know this is the F1 thread but I have to ask -- is anyone else besides me completely blown away by the response to Team Penske smoothing a rough edge on their Indy cars? Everything I can find says that it is essentially a cosmetic change, with no competitive advantage whatever. I don't follow Indy all that closely, but I know how big of a deal Penske himself is, and I know they got caught flat-out cheating last year with the push-to-pass thing. But still, this seems over the top.

When you own the race Indy car series, the #1 team and many of the tracks including Indy.

    "essentially"
No one can say for sure...but .001 second multiplied over three hours...maybe.
But it doesn't matter, the rules are the rules...and the rules say don't touch it.
And like DuffyBank said...the optics for the series are horrible...or that's how I interpret his comment

Roger used that word too -- optics. I get that he owns the whole deal, and I can see why the punishment would have to be greater because of that. And I guess anything less than relegation to the back row would have caused a lot of griping about favoritism. But I also think that had it been, say, a middle of the pack team that smoothed that seam, they would have been told to un-smooth it and that would have been the end of it.

Back to F1 -- I think even Norris couldn't believe that lap. What a performance! Also a brilliant bit of strategy by the team to send them out first. I'm not thrilled with the 2 pit stop gimmick for the race itself but they have to do something to spice up the race I suppose.

When you have some bad rules, how do you fix the rules? More rules!!!

    Roger on that.

Bernie is likely envious of the control he has.

Pile that onto last year's push to pass penalties.

Could they add more rules to make Monaco more boring? Put them into carts for the weekend.

Watching modern F1 cars at Monaco is almost always a waste of time and this year was no exception. They managed to turn the usual parade into an even bigger joke.

Dunno, I enjoyed it. Qualifying was spectacular. The race was better than the last few years-- still not great-- but still enjoyable to watch. Might be biased as a McLaren fan, but it felt exciting for a good bit of the duration.

    Zero on track. Zilch. Nada.

I appreciate the attempt to try and introduce changes in an effort to make things interesting but let's be honest, today just proved it didn't work because you could mandate 10 stops and Lawson is still gonna drive with his parking brake on and Williams will follow suit.

And it's hard for me to blame them because that strategy led to double points for both teams.

Formula 3 cars. Porsches. Go karts. Motogp bikes. Paddock scooters...all better "solutions"

The answer is one. Antonelli had a nice overtake against Bortoleto on lap one.

Bortoleto did Antonelli before that also.

A strategically interesting race, I guess. Like watching chess except the pieces move faster. Red Bull's 4-car advantage was also on full display.
