Morning all. Another chilly rainy day!

Thought I was done firing up the shop heaters, I should have known better!

 

Ain't no mo' of dat.... ~80 the next three days. Ugh the bugs!!

At least all the happy birds are back. Have already seen flicker, scarlet tanager, oriole, american redstart, have our family of phoebes who come back every year currently sitting on eggs in our carport. No hummingbirds yet. Only annoying one is the robin who is molesting the Taco passenger side window... I think it has "issues" lol.

 

Morning Vermont

 

I still haven’t seen an oriole. I put a bunch of feeders out at the shop in the woods. I started using the Merlin app to help identify them. I need to get some binos. There’s a pair of Merlin close by, fun to watch when they’re out and doing their acrobatics. I don’t think it was one of them (looked too big), but I had a hawk crash down and just miss a squirrel 10 feet behind me. I don’t know who was more startled. The squirrel, hawk or me!

 

Most of our bird sightings are usually before the leaves grow in or in fall as they are picking at our echinachea seeds on the way out. We only luck out on the orioles and tanagers very early in spring by chance. Most of the good visuals for us are over already. We hear lots of stuff yelling all the time, but seeing is just pure luck when staring out the window. Saw a rose breasted grosbeak once, but only once, like that in the 17 years here. Too many places to hide. Can't imaginge what all moves through that we never get to see.

We won't do feeders.... besides the mice, the next door neighbor who thought he was walking past a garbage bag which then started to move when he got next to it (bear!).... umm no for me! They keep feeders out all year... the owls luv the buffet around them

 

Took this at lunch - the phoebes nesting in our shelter are cooking them up. Should be popped out here by next weekend.



Perspective is everything, they are about the size of an almond.

 

That’s awesome! It will be fun watching them leave the nest

 

Also got these guys and other salamanders popping out with the weather. Tons around hiding under everything in the yard.

All right, which one of you had yesterday the 19th on your bingo card as the first day this year (as far as I know?) a tractor trailer would get stuck in the notch?

Hope everyone came out ok with the storms Saturday. Crazy crap!
At least we didn’t get hail!
Her new car was out at her job.
Not even 100 miles on it.
My truck was in the garage.
Got so dark street lights came on 3 pm.

My neighbors on either side mowed yesterday. One would think they would do my front yard I do theirs often.
I have a rider but still.
Sunday or Monday I’ll be cutting some hay!

 

Morning Vermont

 

I have had 2 different neighbors next to me in the last 8 years . Same house sold twice . Both from NYC . Neither ever had a lawn or used a mower . Right now the lawn next door in certain areas is almost knee high . The people there now work from home and barely come out of the house and on weekends they are never home . In their 40s ,no kids ,both with 6 figure incomes . I showed the guy how to change the oil and grease the mower and pointers on mowing . Pointless . He mowed once this spring when the lawn was real high ,deck on low setting going like a bat out of hell . Looked like shit . It’s a breeding ground for ticks over there .

Happy Memorial Day.
Gotta do an oil change and rotate my tires this am. Damm wheels seem to get heavier every time. By then the dew should be dried up and I’ll get the lawn mowed.
Seems to rain when I’m not in work.
