One Tigris Cosmitto 2.0. I use a cot that has removable legs so the cot is a few inches above the ground.

 

Helinox has a version of cot that legs are removable.

 

If you like it, fine. But $245, no way in hell.

 

I paid that for my benchmade pocketknife

a good knife is kinda expensive

 

It’s just as easy to put up a 3 to 4 person tent as it is a 1 to 2 person. And with the smaller tent you are going to be really restricted and cramped with a cot in it. Hard to move around etc. I don’t see any advantage of a 1-2 person tent other than for backpacking. If you absolutely have to have a tiny tent then don’t use a cot. Use a nice comfortable camp mattress. Just a suggestion.

 

I’ve also paid $$$ for a couple of good knives. But other than the brand name I don’t see anything special about that knife making it worth $245. Each to their own.

 

Ahhh you meant the brand not being worth it and weren’t balking at price in general

I have a “used twice” Helinox that’s low profile and fits even small 2p tents. I’m a side sleeper and it didn’t quite work for me, but if you have good experiences with cots, this might be an option. Spendy but lightweight. I’d let you borrow it if you were local!

I only use it when we're doing scout camping though (basically car camping ish) but not backpacking.

 

I’ve got the Teton xxl cot. It’s heavy and big but that’s its selling point. I’m 6’2 250 and it’s big enough for me to change sleeping positions. It’s also comfortable enough you don’t need a pad

Just got done revamping my backpacking gear and now I have all this info/temptation to rifle through… TIA.

Just replaced an old Kelty Redcloud 110 (bought almost 10 years ago when I overpacked like a moron even when I barely needed half that capacity) with a Gregory Paragon 60. Almost went with an Osprey Exos 58 for the reduced weight but the Gregory has a higher carrying weight cap and is a bit more robust.

Also recently grabbed a Sierra Designs mummy bag, Paria 1p tent, and a Neoair sleeping pad- shaved between 6-7 pounds off my base weight with those purchases alone and now I’ve got dedicated car camping and a BP’ing setups.

Could still keep trimming but I’m pleased for now and will get to test the new kit out this weekend, then again in Bryce Canyon in a few weeks.

 

Yeah, the price for the Helinox ($250-300) seems absurd to me, but if you’re backpacking, the two pound difference between yours and mine might be worth it.

I always return to my Thermorest NeoTherm for backpacking and car camping with my kids’ scout groups — or if I’m feeling regal I use my wife’s Exped for the latter.

I get the overpacking. Good on you to try quitting.

I tried to shift down once but found I’m nearly always hauling climbing or mountaineering gear that a slimmer and less steady pack can’t handle (Talon 44).

Yeah I ain't backpacking with a cot. Have a perfectly good pad for that and shoot, I'm always the first one up and tearing everything down anyway. Now, a good lightweight camp chair and a nice blanket, otoh...

Cots are great in warm, humid places. In dry, cool places its a challenge to stay warm on a cot with the cool air circulating underneath. Since we reach 35-45º F every night all summer above 10,000', I haven't used a cot since I moved to the Rockies in 1967. Run into chilly cot sleepers every hunting season around here.
