2018 3rd gen Tacoma here , I’ve been experiencing an issue and wanted to know if its common and what could be the reason for it , I got my truck 4 months ago , I’m a 3rd owner , the issue is that when I want to park my truck on a hill I push down the brake and then put it into N after that I pull up the hand brake and let my foot off the brake and I put it into P , however the issue is that when I lift my foot off the brake the truck rolls back , not an inch or two it fully rolls back and nothing stops it , so I find myself having to put the trucks weight on the P gear which ik can cause the gear harm in the future , would like to know the solution

Have you checked the pads and if they are actually compressing? Besides that you have a great habit of park.

The rear brake shoes need to be adjusted. It's not a difficult process if all the hardware is in good shape. Several 'how to' posts around on the topic.

Easy to do if you know what you’re doing. Jack up the rear end, parking break off, chock the front tires, take off the tires and remove the rubber cover and start clicking away. Periodically check the parking break for tension.

Try slowly rolling backwards and using the parking brake alone to stop the truck. From what I have read on here, the rear drums adjust better when applied in reverse.

Based on the truck age, I would remove drums and clean insides and then proceed with adjusting shoes

Remove the rear drums, clean and adjust the shoes, put the drums and wheels back on and adjust a bit more through the slot in the back. Listen for a slight drag

You can also pull up the cup holder tray and adjust the cable where it comes up through the floor

The adjuster mechanism in the drum is supposed to self adjust but they never really do on their own.

What others said. Since you third owner, how many miles on your 2018 Tacoma? Maybe time to do brake jobs, don't know if previous owners took care of Tacoma.
