I'd like to upgrade the taillights on my pro, but don't know which kit to go with, the Extreme or the Triton? Anyone have experience w/the Extreme? Any issues with either?

I've had the V6 Extreme for about a year and about 10k miles. They've been flawless in that time. You'll want to install the hyper flash fix resister boxes that come with the kit, but they mount easy so there's no real point to skip them. The hyper flash only happened for me when in reverse with turn signal on, like when parallel parking. Hyperflash will continue until you stop and restart the truck.

I don't see any reason to go above VTAILS standard (non V6). I have had both, the standard and the V6 extreme, the extreme and triton are both too bright as tail light bulbs at night. They would be hard for the driver behind you to look at. Also, all the cabling for them adds a bunch of bulk behind the tail lights. The turn signal that comes in the V6 kits is not near as bright as the standard switchback either.

I have had the standard V6 bulbs for a year or so. I think they are just about the right brightness for me in regards to not blinding people behind me. Any brighter would be too much.

I just bought the Standard bulb kit and think they are perfect brightness. Easy install and really like the amber turn signals. I would agree on the upgrade bulbs being too bright. These are already brighter.

Sorry to bring this back up, but can you see LEDs in the reverse light with the standard VTAILS? Is the consensus still the standard over the Triton and Extreme? The brighter backup lights of the Extreme tempts me, but I don’t want to blind everyone with my brake lights either.

Can you tell there’s an aftermarket LED when looking through the clear lens of the tail light? One of the sales points of the Triton and Extreme is “Clean Look The optically engineered lens eliminates the sight of exposed LEDs in the reverse light reflector.” Kind of makes it sound like the standard looks cheap.

I mean if you're looking up on it real close you would see it but it hardly takes away from the truck appearance if you aren't paying attention. Personally, I don't think the extremes have any noticeably better backup lights, and the turn signals of the V6 extreme are absolutely worse than the standard tails. I would go standard all day long. Also, I still think the extreme reds are way too bright at night. The tail light mode is very fatiguing for other drivers to look at, and then the brakes come on and its even worse. I think the standard kit is pretty much perfect.

Stage 1's are very bright. You'll be happy with them. Zero reason to get the others.

this doesn’t look “cheap” to the majority. also you can hardly tell what is going on unless you’re up close like i am.

Thanks for the picture. I chose my words poorly. I was trying to understand why it was listed as an improvement with the Triton and Extreme. I didn't mean to come across as insulting.

+1 to the Standard Vtails. I think anything more and you're over complicating the idea of tail lights. The only issue I had was one of the red bulbs and the harness suddenly stop working properly. Sent a message to their customer service and they were able to look up my order number from my email and send me replacements very quickly. Like other people have said I also installed the resistors to prevent the hyper flashing issue.

The standard it is wayyyyyyy brighter and crisper than stock was, definitely no reason to go any brighter.

Also, I never needed to install the hyperflash resistors even though I bought them, they're just in a box somewhere.

The OEM layout is quite terrible. When the brake lights are on, you almost don’t notice the turn signals at all. Hard to believe that’s what they settled on when the 2G tails were perfectly fine. Should have just kept the 2G design with an updated modern look.
